The Sierras are usually good to visit on into October. Unless they get a cold snap.
In the summer there are sometimes thunder storms, but that usually adds to the fun. The fall can often get ferak snow storms. Last year during the fall we were up there and the weather went from pleasent to getting a snow storm back on on of the back trails, but that was fun too.

Oh man I am checking out a write up on MJR about a group that just ran the Dusy...... HOLY COW does that look AWESOME!!

I am going to verfiy my calendar and see if I can squeeze in a run up to Shaver in the coming months. Anyone else have a good weekend they can spare and make a trip?

Thats the one. The run is about a 100 mile loop - from Shaver L back to Shaver L (the only gas station) 33 miles are the actual trail - and is rated in the 8-10 range, the other milage is a paved road. Elevation is in average of 9000 ft., so summer is the best time to run this trail.

The trail looks pretty rad. from the picts.
BTW there also is another trail in the same area that is about 12 miles long with about the same difficulty rating as the Dusy. The Swamp Lake Trail. This one can be run in 8-10 hours I'm told. I wanted to check this one out but ran out of time.

That trail looks like a 10 for sure. I am down to go if I can swing it but you guys are going to have to figure out a way to strap my KJ to the top of yours or figure something else out to get me through that stuff.

Maybe Burchie and I can take turns piggy backing behind you guys.

The Sierras are fun. Here are some pictures when I did Bald Mountain near Shaver Lake last November.

Hopefully my schedule permits me to come down for whatever you guys decide to run.

The average date for pavement winter gate closures is the last weekend of October. I haven't checked for the Kaiser Pass or Swamp OHV gate dates though. I'll watch your trail dates, myself being booked into the last wknd of Sept, but October still has white pages.

I would like to propose another local trail to do. The Cleghorn trail - it goes from the I-15 McDonalds in Cajon pass over to Lake Silverwood.
I just ran the trail today in my JK and it is in real good condition, and makes for a very good run. Its good 4 wheelin all the way.
It was nice and cool way up there on top of the ridge.

Another poss. is the Monanche Meadows trail and Sherman Pass 4x4 trail in the Sequioa NF just above Ridgecrest Ca. in the Lake Isabella area.
This is most likely an overnighter. There are hotels and CG's in Kernville.
Trail elev. is 8000 to 9000ft. .........which spells "cool".

Hey Burchie, when were those pictures taken?? It looks like when the trail was real easy. You know the trail changes from year to year.
BTW where is my BB Crawl pictures you promised??

Has anyone run the Monanche and Sherman Pass trails before??

A few more pix from the Cleghorn trail. Most people stay out of the ruts, and don't do cliff diving. Swimsuits required for cliff diving.

The more I see of Cleghorn the less I care to run it. I need me some mountains and trees.

Ya know the trail is not that bad at all. Those pictures were taken either after a major rain or are not really even part of the trail. I've run the trail in worse conditions than it is now when my JK was completly stock with open diffs. and street tires. Not trying to be-labor the the trail, but it does make for a good run.
