Hey folks! Start planning on a Calico run for November 29th. We have had a tough time getting participation in recent years for this event but it is always a great run and everyone has a blast. Hopefully we can get some folks to come out and play this year.

I am considering splitting it up into an easy trail run and a hard trail if we have enough that want easy. Might need to get out there to scout an easy group of trails so post up if you can make it and want easy.

More details coming......

Hey folks! Don't forget about the upcoming LOST JEEPS Calico Turkey Crawl event.

NOVEMBER 29th. Calico, Ca.
http://www.calicotown.com/mapweather/

We will meet up at the 15 fwy and Ghost Town Rd. at the 76 gas station on the North side of the 15 and the Jenny Rose restuarant parking lot.

Meet time 0900, Leave promptly to the trail at 0930.

This will be an all day trail ride of varying dificulty. We will have an easy/moderate route for those that don't want to bounce off rocks all day. Bring non-alcoholic beverages and a lunch. We will do dinner that night in town.

LMK if you have any questions.

I would probably be in the Liberty, so I would prefer an easier trail if possible.

I might be able to get the day off work and make this. How hard would a "hard" trail be with my setup (see sig)? Both diffs are open, so I guess I could expect to get strapped here and there. But I'd rather not break anything; it's my daily driver. I know stuff happens even on the easiest of trails, so nobody can guarantee anything. But would I stand a decent chance of doing a hard trail without major breakage? Body dings and trail rash I can live with.

I can think of a couple of spots where you "may" need a strap, but otherwise you're good to go.

OK, I'm in. Me, my wife and 3-year-old daughter. I have Friday-Sun off, so we were thinking of getting there Friday and camping. Anybody have any recommendations for a place to stay? I've zipped past Calico dozens of times but never stopped. Google turns up a county park with campsites. Is that the best option? The Calico website's kind of skimpy.

The Calico ghost town camping area books up pretty far in advance so you might want to jump on that quick. I am unaware of other camping in the immediate area. Have to look more into that. In the past many have just stayed in Barstow at the various hotels.

Yeah, I figured there'd be slim pickings, if anything, left at this point. I'll give it a shot anyway. Was just trying to get an idea of what my options are. Thanks!

If you're equipped, there's always free camping on the BLM lands surrounding Calico; many people do that. No facilities, so you'll need everything. But you'll be close to the campground and really close to where the runs will be.

Thanks! I'd do that in a heartbeat if it were just me. But need something a little less primitive to keep my wife happy. We wound up booking a site at the campground. Now we're all set. Can't wait for November. Tired of all this heat and humidity.

I did the Calico trail open diffs the first year. Had the rear sway bar on. The only spot I had problems with was the escalator/ chute area right at the beginning. Other than that I was able to make it through with some good spotting.

We're researching the possiblity of coming out too. I miss the Calico T-Day run so much. And hanging out with the Cali gang too.

later, mike

I'll probably just be coming out for the day. Gonna be cold camping, last year was freezing when we got there in the morning.
