Anyone interested in running Potatoe Ridge this weekend? Looks like the weather will continue to hold out through Saturday so I will be out and about. I am very new to the Vegas area so I will be running it off the maps I have located from various sites on the web. I would love someone to come along that has been on the trail before, but I'm very good at sniffing out trails so either way it will be fine. Ok now for the CYA items: From the trail ratings I have seen they say a stocker can get through if there is not any snow. This I don't know. I would recomend at least 31's and a 2" lift. I do require that if you come out you have the following: Recovery points front and back (back can be a receiver hitch), First aid kit, fire extingisher, lots of water, 4x4 low, good tires, a good spare, working jack etc. Basicly the typical things you "should" have when you go wheeling. I do not tolerate drinking on the trail. If you wheel with me you will be doing so at your own risk. I will not take responsebility for any damage that occurs on the trail. I will tell you I won't leave anyone behind, if some thing happens I will make sure you get off the trail. If there is interest I will set up a meeting place and time, otherwise I will just run it whenever I wake up and get going. Vegas Valley 4 Wheelers trail description can be found here: http://www.vv4w.org/trails.asp |

Honestly, it is very tempting but I told my wife I would not go down it again for awhile. She was too worried when...Doug I think it was nearly tipped. We also have to do a few things at my Sister-in-Laws house Saturday |

No worries, I really didn't think anyone would come along but I hated that I kept going out "exploring" and not inviting. |

I'd PM Doug and MrKake and see if they can swing it with you. There is also PoorMtKid that is down there. And it was indeed Doug that almost rolled his KJ on PR. Scary for a sec there, and then really hilarious. |

Quote: it might be fun to start on las vegas side of wheelers pass and go to pahrump, then go on potato ridge to red rock. That's the exact route we will be taking with the SoCal guys in Dec. You down for that one? Quote: OMG that is by far one of the best smileys I have seen to date!
Yea, when the site was down and I was hanging out at KJK I got kind of addicted to the expanded set of smileys. Now I just open a separate tab in the browser and go here: http://www.freesmileys.org/. This site is clean and has all the smileys already formatted in forum code so you can just copy and paste. Works on any forum that I have been on so far. |

I have to go on Saturday due to the wife. The other thing is I am just looking for something that won't take a ton of time to run but could be fun. I have seen pictures of optional obsticles on Potatoe Ridge? Anyway I will probably go at 10:00am Saturday, take my time but "try" to be back with enough time to get ready to take my wife out Saturday night, so just planning on running Potatoe on this trip. |

FYI I will be in the Rubi as my Libby will be out in Denver till around February. I guess you could look at this as a chance to get a picture strapping my Rubi with your KJ! Hey mrkake, I would love any information you could provide. I didn't realize that you were including Potatoe Ridge in the Dec. run, otherwise I would have just waited. I guess that was another blonde moment..............sorry about that. |

Here is a link to a Google map that I made showing directions to the south side trail head: http://tinyurl.com/6bn2zf and then this is the link to the Spring Mountain Recreation Areahttp://www.fs.fed.us/r4/htnf/districts/smnra/index.shtml. If you click the map on the lower part of the page you will get blown up maps that are zoom-able. There are a lot of roads and trails around in that area. Let me know if these make sense. |

Some pictures, we didn't get many and the frist section I went through my wife and I just totally spaced getting the camera out.................damm that was a fun part. Anyway on the road out
A ways up into the canyon, playing around on different lines.
A couple shots further up the canyon
Once over the ridge there were some nice views
At this point we got out played around did a little hiking and I had to get a posser shot...........my wife says hi!
All in all a fun little trail. Nothing too crazy but there are some spots where you can definately make the trail about as hard as you want to. Once we were over into the Red Rocks area we ran into a ton of hikers. Almost all were very nice and I just kept it in 4lo and crept along as not to stir up a bunch of dust. Just have to keep an eye out for them.........lol We left the house at 10:00am and made it back right around 3:00pm, so it work out perfectly. |

I have to ask...in that last pic, it looks like you aired down your tires. 1-How low did you drop the PSI to? 2-Do you have an on board air compressor or just a refill tank? 3-Was today not gorgeous out? |

1-How low did you drop the PSI to? 2-Do you have an on board air compressor or just a refill tank? 3-Was today not gorgeous out? 1) My deflators took them down to about 8psi, I hadn't used them in a long time and need to adjust them back up to 10psi. I did air down because I planned to play on some of the stuff I had seen in pictures on other sites. Had a blast! 2)This is my "on board air". its just a Quickair II mounted under the hood
3)Today was amazing! |
