Okay folks here's the scoop:
Date: Saturday, December 6th
Time: 10 am
Place: Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.
Take the scenic loop to the turn off to the parking area. This is where we will start the day. Those of you staying at a Strip or Downtown property should plan on 30 - 40 minutes travel time to reach the meeting place. Here is a general map

If you are on the northern end of Las Vegas Blvd will want to take I-15 to 95 North towards Reno, exit on Summerlin Parkway, exit on Rampart and head south, turn right on Charleston Blvd. and head west. There are signs for Red Rock once you get past the 215.
If you are staying south, you will want to just take I-15 to the 215 west and exit at Charleston Blvd heading west and follow the signs.
For those staying at the Suncoast or Red Rock casinos it is only about 10 minutes to the gate of Red Rock NCA. Just head west on Charleston.
Please PM me if you need directions from a specific location and I will be happy to give them.
We will be on CB Channel 25.
Weather is expected to be in the low to mid 60's so dress accordingly and bring a jacket. No precipitation is currently being forecast for that day.
Standard requirements are expected to be met: vehicle in good repair with a full tank of fuel, strong recovery points front and rear, fire extinguisher, shovel, appropriate clothing for conditions, plenty of food and water for all occupants, etc. I will have "Hold Harmless" agreements to sign at the meeting place.
This is still the desert and even though its cool, dehydration is always a concern. Bring plenty of water and drink before you are thirsty. My recommendation is at least 2 liters per person or more. Bring a cold lunch and we can stop for a group meal once we get over the top of Potato Ridge and drop down into Spring Mountain National Recreation Area.
Here is the general itinerary for the day (for the most part the trail consists of dirt roads and should be an enjoyable drive through some desert mountains):
Meet at RRNCA, travel over Potato Ridge down into SMNRA, break for lunch, head down Lovell Canyon Rd to Highway 160 and travel west about 5 miles on 160 to Wheeler Pass Rd., follow Wheeler Pass Rd over the summit and back down the east side of the mountain to Cold Creek, air back up and head to US95 and back into town.
Here is a Google map that I made of the trail:

Dinner is on me at The Melting Pot in Summerlin (you will just need to pay for drinks and tip the server/s well). I will give details and directions on the trail. If any of you local guys can't make the trail run but would like to join us for dinner you are welcome to come!
