Holy Cow! What a great trip! I feel like I have been missing out all these years by driving Through the Vegas area and never taking the time to find trails to wheel. The Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area where we wheeled was great w/ a nice combination of scenery and just enough difficulty on Potato Ridge to keep it interesting and fun. We started the day by visiting w/ some wild (pretty tame though) horses and then headed off to the trail which was a nice long winding trail up the mountain. It was a pretty easy section but was definitely fun and scenic.

We even got in some night wheeling on the way down the canyon in the dark. 8)

I really have to thank the Vegas folks that came out to host the run and especially Kirk for his hard work setting up this run and his awesome hospitality at dinner. What a Feast!! and a fun time!

On to some pics!

Once we get a thread I will stick up some pictures but in the mean time I have been uploading some to this album in my Photobucket account.

Unfortunately I really didn't get any on Potato Ridge that came out except for one. I guess I had my camera set wrong, sorry.

What a wonderful introduction to the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest we had!! Thanks to YOU, the folks who organized this 4x4 adventure! From Diamond Springs to Wheeler Pass was a very scenic drive, offering panoramic vistas spanning over 50 miles cast over the eastern Mojave Desert.

After lunch and visiting the Charcoal Kiln ruins, we were introduced to Potato Ridge Trail. WOW! It was a great opportunity to test our 4x4 skills driving over rocky obstacles and scaling some off-camber ledges!

After the sun had set in the west, we crested Potato Ridge and headed down into the infamous Red Rock Canyon. The road was narrow and windy providing some intermittent exposed bedrock but, overall an easy route to negotiate.

Thank YOU very much for your Guidance, Hospitality and Camaraderie on the trail!

Once we were back on pavement aired up and the driver vehicle checks completed, we headed back into civilization. All of the 4x4 event participants were treated to dinner at the Melting Pot Restaurant! What a wonderful feast the Melting Pot provided!! From the appetizers of fruits, vegetables and breads hand dipped in a fresh blend of melted cheeses and spices.

The main entrees included fresh shrimp, pacific salmon, prime beef, Carolina pork and seasoned chicken breast that was absolutely tantalizing!

A VERY Special thanks to the owner (Kirk) and his Restaurant Staff of the Melting Pot Restaurant! Your excellent service, generosity and delectable foods were incredible!

Thank you very much for a great time!

Sincerely,

Greg and Kelly.

Wow! This is the first chance I have had to log in and look around much since the run last weekend. Thanks for all the kind words. I had a blast that day. Dinner didn't go as well as I had hoped but I am probably just be self critical. As long as everyone enjoyed it then it was a success. It was nice meeting more LOST folks and spending a day in the dirt! Can't wait to do another one.

Dinner? Dinner was Great! It isn't often that I get to enjoy a great, relaxing meal w/ my Jeep friends in a nice setting. It was a nice change from hotdogs and carne asada around a grill. (looking forward to those again soon too though!)

Fun times and that overall trip is high on my top ten list.

I had a good time, thanks to all and seeing some friends again. Here's a few photo links. I tried to link them as images but for some reason this forum won't accept these as valid image (other forums do) links.
