Oh come on you guys, stop your whining. I can say this cuz I was there, and I think we all did good. We stuck together, and got through it and we all made it home. Some of us in more then one piece, but the point is we pooled our resourses and got the job done. And that's what we do as friends and as a club. We learned from this and now we know what we should be carrying with us and next time we'll be better prepared. When ya'll get ready, we'll do it again. |

THATS WHAT IM TALKIN ABOUT...RIGHT THERE BUDDY. I understand that the JB Weld came in handy ...but a couple of quarts of gear lube and a pump would have helped out...(mental note folks....). You guys had your hi-lift and some straps , bargin basement recovery gear might not be what you want to bring ...right ...perfect example of to late to get it when you need it. Couple of straps and a couple of shackels never hurt anyone (put them in your bag). I think you guys did a great job and hung tuff together ! Get a bag or an Action Packer (rubbermaid) and fill it up with the stuff you wished you had. If someone would have gotten hurt (god forbid)...what was the phone number to the nearest ranger/sheriff's station...wheres the nearest hosptial...whats the number....who had a 1st Aid kit...? how good was it...? How could you have described where you were for the helicopter lifeflight. Who knew CPR ? (theres a class this weekend...sign up!!) This is a valuable example of what can happen and how teamwork and preperation can really save your bacon. Once again guys and gals...great job taking care of eachother. Sure glad you made it out in one piece Mark......Sorry about your Jeep |

I was actually very familiar w/ the area. 911 was the #, and I am also CPR and first aid Cert. It is required for my job. The only thing that I own that I wished I had w/ me was a come along. It is even more of a bargain basement piece of gear. They have 20 feet of 3/16" cable that will wind up on a ratcheting spool. It is a poor mans winch. They cost about $20.00 @ Harbor Frieght and they will pull a tree down if you got the muscle to crank it that hard. If you don't have a winch I recommend tossing one in your tools box. The gear oil was a bad call on my part. I was 15 miles from home and thought I could make it. Toasted the outer axle bearings and the pinion bearing. All said and done it will cost me about $65.00 for parts and some time at my buddies shop on the rack (he has a jeep too). As far as us sticking together we did outstanding. This was my first time out with people from the group. I had talked to Burchie on the message board a few times, and stuck a comment in here and there but never met face to face. It was a really bad day and it was a really good day too. I'm sold on KJWEST. You guys rock. Mark that program sucks, the trouser smile was the funniest part of the whole thing. Doug P.S. Annette, thanks for changing the mood of this string. It was getting kind of negative. |

Costco has an 8000lb winch for $300 or $400. Can't remember which and it's not online. No name I've ever seen before but if it works and you use it once it pretty much would pay for itself. |

The winch is $300 at Harbor Freight, and I have one that I've used already. It worked well, and the reason I got it was because a friend bought one a few years ago and it has worked well for him many times. We believe it's a Mile Marker winch with Harbor Freight's trade name of Chicago put on. It seems to be just as good as my Ramsey 8000# on my Wrangler. Hey, Burchie, sorry about your roll. Unless you actually were on your roof at least momentarily, though, I'm afraid this doesn't count as a full rollowver, just a layover. You dont' get to mount your decal upside down. |

Several years back, I taught my, now ex-gril, friend how to snow ski. 3 years later, she was getting better, but had never fallen yet. I told her she wasn't pushing her self hard enough if she never falls. I took my first fall, well 1/2 a fall. I'm sure there will more, but at least I'll be prepared. If your going to play, you have to be ready pay. -Burchie |
