Lisa not knowing what size extiguisher you have I cant really give you a clear idea of where to put it. A good rule of thumb is to make your placement as close to you as possible. So that if an incedent occurs you have it within reach and are able to use it quickly. In my Libby I found that a small auto extinguisher fit along side of the drivers seat and the door. it is a little tough to remove but it holds well and doesnt slide around. Hope this helps.

Having it anywhere in the car at all is a good idea :D I put mine in the back.

When I was working in my aunt's restaurant in Chicago, there was a car that caught fire in front of the restaurant. I saw the driver trying to put out the fire so I grabbed our fire extinguisher and put it out. Then a few minutes later I saw him trying to put out the fire again! Turned out he got back into the car and started it, and when it caught fire the second time he tried to put it out with newspaper!

Hmm... I wonder what he's doing now :D

BTW, here's a funny link:

Hi, I'm Ted, one of the safety crew. Ideally, the extinguisher should be located near you (as was already mentioned) so that you can grab it quickly as you're exiting the vehicle. If it's somewhere else, like in the back, it may not be accessible should there be a fire in that area. Also, it should be easy to get out of its holding device, usually with a snap latch. Last, it's good to have the fill conditon indicator readily visible to make sure it's usable when needed.

I've had to use one several times, sometimes for others and once for me when I had a gas line break on a former car. Very glad to have it. Remember, too, that in a pinch, or if the extinguisher runs out, you can use sodas (preferably carbonated), beer, or champagne (doesn't everyone carry some?). Shake vigorously, open and point. You'll see that method used on winning race drivers, probably so they won't combust.

Generally where most mount their maglite is the best place to mount a small fire extingusher.

Just between the drivers door and the seat.
