Post subject:  4x4 Training/Practice Day

Some of us have been discussing the idea of offering an informal, non-professional Practice Training Day.

All STOCK LIBERTYS WILL BE ABLE TO COMPLETE THIS RUN.

The idea is to meet up at the Hungry Valley Off-Road Park and go through an hour of discussion regarding the different pieces of recovery gear and trail maintenance items that might make up a well- stocked off-road Kit you could have in your Jeep.

In addition, you will have an opportunity to play/experiment in the park's Practice Area which consists of a small rock garden, a rock climb with medium sized boulders imbedded into a cement ramp, a very steep gully crossing, and a side hill that will test your ability to traverse a slope. You will have the assistance of spotters which will allow some of our newer members to see what their Jeeps are capable of in a controlled area.

After the practice time, we will go on a moderate Trail Run through the park which should take about 4 hours to complete. The whole thing would take the better part of a day if not the entire day.

There are professional services that do similar events and will be more inclusive in their information and training, but they cost money. Our Practice Training Day will be free to LOST KJ members and is at your own risk, with no real experts but only fellow jeepers to try and help you through. You should enjoy the day if you’re an adventurous person.

The Trail Ride will be optional and does include one steep hill climb (stock vehicles will make this trail, and the driver will need to be willing to climb one steep hill climb that may be un-nerving to some, but is completely achievable by a STOCK LIBERTY) This will be a standard climb to the seasoned KJ crowd, but still allot of fun.

Please post if you are interested in such an event. We are planning this event sometime in February.

This is a description from the states web page

Four-Wheel Drive Practice Area
A 10-acre site adjacent to the Aliklik Campground has been developed to provide an area where 4-wheel drive enthusiasts may test their personal capabilities and that of their vehicles. The practice area contains eight man-made features that replicate conditions and terrain found throughout California's backcountry. Visitors may operate their 4-wheel drive vehicles on their own, or join a formal safety and operations class conducted by California Association of 4-Wheel Drive Clubs certified instructors. For information on classes offered at Hungry Valley, call (800) 494-3866.

Tom Severin holds some excellent proffesionally lead classes at :

Hey Jeff,
John & I got our dates mixed up for the pre-run.

I'm definately in to help on the actual day. I've been there several times, so I'm familiar with the area.

There is a 5 dollar fee for day use, I believe there is another fee to camp...but in Feb. it's going to be cold and possibly wet so Motel 6 would be a much more comfortable choice.

This may or may not happen.....it's really a matter of how many people are interested in a practice day like this, if your interested ...post up.
