I'm going to be in California from Arizona and a co-worker told me that I need to have covers on my off-road lights. Is this correct?
Thanks!

depends on what cop sees it and if he is bored enough to mess w/ ya. Bring them with you if you have them and most likely they will ask you to cover them and let you go w/ a warning. I see plenty of vehicles w/ uncovered lights so I don't think it is a problem.

I'm not in CA, but in both NM and VA I've never had any covered lights on any of my suvs/trucks. Surprisingly enough I've never been pulled over for it either. Then again, I have yet to be pulled over while in one of these vehicles either.... so I can't say what they would have said..

CA law states, that if the lights are above the windshield, they need to be covered while on the road. But it depends on the cop who sees them. Mostly the CHP are policing this. and It's a $280 + ticket, and it's not a "fix it" ticket. Here is my jeep and the light I have on it.

Well, it is supposedly illegal in many states. Some allow you to turn them facing rearward or up to the sky.

That said i have the Mopar ligthbar and have never had it covered, i bought it sans covers, I put 30k on it and and have never been pulled over or commented to. I also have a set of hella 500 ff's on the bumper, witch i do generally cover.

I have driven from Here to Florida twice like this with NO issues.

If i had the overhead covers i would probably use them, when i want the lights they are always covered with crap. I see them on ebay every once and a wile and i loose the auctions. The covers are 40 dollars each from mopar. If for no other reason than for protection from chips, they should be covered.

Bottom line, i would not worry about it.

I have seen a LOT of trucks/suv's out here with 3 or more 7-10 inch lamps mounted overhead w/o covers
