a little short notice, but my jk club is doing a run memorial day weekend (may 23rd - 25th). it's open to any one. let me know if anyone wants to go. here is the info the jk club posted:

As some of you already know, we are planning a trip out to the Valley of Fire this coming Memorial Day Weekend (May 23rd - 25th) and we'd love to have you join us. For those of you who aren't familiar with the Valley of Fire, it's a state park in the Nevada north of Las Vegas, just south of Mesquite and near the north shores of Lake Mead. The area is absolutely beautiful and while there is no wheeling within the park itself, the area near Logandale has about half a dozen moderate to difficult trails and in some places, has a terrain similar to what you would find in Moab.

So you know, our plan is to head out on Friday and stay the night in Las Vegas or leave super early on Saturday the 23rd. For those of you who plan to stay in a hotel, the only one that I would recommend is the Best Western in Overton, Nevada but there are two other motels in the area that you can check out and they are:

Plaza Motel
(702) 397-2414
207 N Moapa Valley Blvd
Overton, NV 89040

Overton Motel
(702) 397-2463
137 N Moapa Valley Blvd
Overton, NV 89040

Now, these other two aren't exactly 5 star accomodations but they are cheap. Unfortunately, neither of these motels have a website so you will have to call in your reservations. Of course, if you can always stay in Mesquite which is about 30 mins north of the trails and so far as I know, the Virgin River Casino, Casa Blanca and Eureka still have rooms available.

For our purposes, we plan on making this into a backcountry camping trip and will be setting up camp out amongst the red rocks. If you are planning on camping with us, we will meet in town Saturday afternoon at the Lin's Supermarket at the south end of Overton - specific time to be announced. Just a reminder, backcountry camping means there is no water available and while there are vault toilets in the area, they will most likely not be near our camp site.
