I'd like to see what we missed last time. Maybe run it backwards since it sounds like the more scenic portion was what we ran in the dark.

I have run that one both ways too. Start the way we went last year, drive down into Red Rock Canyon and hike a little then head back through the rock field again. That's the funnest part of the trail for sure. I kind of like that idea. Not so time intensive. There's a natural spring out there too that's kind of fun side trail but it ends in kind of tight dead end. It might be kinda tough to get a lot of rigs turned around. Just thinking out loud here.

Okay. I think that's the plan if there are no objections. Rocky Gap Road into and out of Red Rock Canyon, play on the trails after and then head to dinner at The Melting Pot.

Thoughts? Feedback?

Debara and I are staying downtown at Fitgeralds. $132 for 3 nights. We will be getting there on Thursday to get in some playtime before the run! woohoo!

There is a gas station on the south side of highway 160 where Blue Diamond forks to the right and becomes highway 159 heading to the Red Rock side of the mountain that would be a good place to meet up. Let's say 10:00. That should give everyone time to get there from the Strip or wherever they are staying. Travel time from Downtown (where Fitzgerald's is) will be about 35 minutes and then the turnoff for the trail head is another 20 minutes towards Pahrump on 160. Address for the gas station is 12325 State Highway 160, Las Vegas, NV 89161.

There are a lot of trails around that area and a step formation that is similar to formations in Moab. I will try to find the trail out to that and see if it makes sense to include that in the run.

If anyone is interested in camping, the trailhead is in Spring Mountain Recreation Area which allows overnight camping in certain areas. If anyone is interested post up and I will find out more details. Still pretty cold at night there FYI.

Right now it looks like we'll be there Friday late afternoon/early eveningish. Just gotta pick somewhere to stay. Can't wait to see you guys!

Side note, is anyone going that could use a Mopar skid from an 03?

Not I; but my son just bought an '05 CRD Limited today. He takes delivery tomorrow and I'll have to see what's under it when I get back home on Friday. Not sure if he's going to bring it out for this one or not. He's afraid of trail pinstripes . How much difference is there between an '03 and '05? I think its bone stock right now.

Gas tank skid should be the same. If he wants it, it's his.

I just got back from running part of the trail. There's still a lot of snow up there. (Looks worse than it is!)

Image

But its passable as far as I went. Someone made it through in the last couple of days. There were tracks in and none out. The trail up to "The Steps" is closed because of snow. But there are several different ways to run Rocky Gap. We can go one way on the way into Red Rock and try a different track on the way back. It was about 50 degrees when I was up there at about noon so dress accordingly. There should be a lot more snow melt over the next several days so it should be fun.

I just got a call from the guy that's watching my house while I am out of town and he says there's a puddle of oil under my Liberty :x . I hope it's something simple or I might be ride-less when I get home.
