| Post subject: | Night Run |
OK guys and gals We did a little trail up in Gorman that was pretty easy during the daytime and the idea was "hey..this would be cool to do at nite " So....I checked my GPS and saw that the following Saturdays were close to or on Full Moon's and thought that it would be cool to do a night run on with as much moonlight as possible. Sound off with what would work for you 5-13 Phase of the Moon on 13 May: waning gibbous with 100% of the Moon's visible disk illuminated 6-10 Phase of the Moon on 10 June:waxing gibbous with 99% of the Moon's visible disk illuminated. 7-08 Phase of the Moon on 8 July: waxing gibbous with 93% of the Moon's visible disk illuminated. 8-12 Phase of the Moon on 12 August: waning gibbous with 84% of the Moon's visible disk illuminated. The later in the summer will require us to leave later in the evening, which will result in a later finish. It took a couple hours in the daytime...so about 3hrs to do it at night time ? To see what all that waxing/waning is all about go here http://aa.usno.navy.mil/faq/docs/moon_phases.html#top |

I say August too. We usually don't have many runs planned that time of year. |

August is OK with me BUT the 13th is a Sunday night. Did you mean that? Whereas, July 15th is a Saturday night. If the run is 3 hours long and we leave at 9 pm, we wouldn't be back til 12. That's OK but maybe not good for anyone who has to get home to work on Monday. And will this be a weekend event, with maybe a run on Miller Jeep Trail? |

August is rough for me but I'll try and make it when ever you guys go. (I just want a reason to use my lights) |

I like June / July...August is going to be kinda hot and the sun will be going down later as well. All dates are supposed to be Saturday nights...so I guess 8-12 was what I meant. |

I personally vote for August, but any of them are fine. I propose the run would start on the Saturday morning with a Miller Jeep trail run during the day, then this night run on Saturday evening after dinner, and then everyone go home on Sunday. |

Gorman is a pretty miserable place to camp unless you've got a trailer or motor home. There are relentless winds and no shelter from them, not to mention the ground is as hard a concrete. I like the Miller Jeep trail idea but would be more inclined to do them seperate. Between Moab and Big Bear would be a good time for it maybe ? |

Any day is good for me. By the way, is anyone up to doing a side trip to Vermillion Cliffs National Park in AZ on the way back from Moab? I would *love* to go Paria Canyon, for example. |

Any time is a good time, so it doesn't matter to me. |

I vote for June. We could always do a prerun in June (so I can go) , then the real run in July or August. |

Jeff and anyone else concerned with camping conditions at Hungry Valley: I've got a 29' motor home and a 24' enclosed cargo trailer with a wooden (not concrete) floor. Between those two, they can sleep a lot of people out of the elements. If you prefer, there's sleeping accommodations at Frazier Park, just a few miles north, and maybe at Gorman. So? |

A keg, 20 people, and a trailer. Boy, does that bring back memories. |

I'd much rather camp out in Death Valley again. That was memorable. If we did it again soon I'll take a dip in the upper springs. Anyone brave enough (or is comfortable enough) can join me |

If June then there'd theoretically be a night run at Big Bear. There will be a Big Bear shindig won't there? |
