So who is staying where for this trip? The wife and I, and maybe a couple friends are probably gonna most likely be staying at Frisco woods. Seems nice. Now I need to decide, tent or cabin??? :?

I just sent Dean a PM. I think we are gonna stay at the Frisco campgrounds. I will find out tomarro/Monday when he logs on next.

Ok guys. For those of you wondering about if we need a permit to drive on the beach, I found a site that gives all the details needed:

http://www.outer-banks.com/visitor-info/offroad.asp

Southern Shores and Kitty Hawk do not allow OHV's on the beach at any time during the year. Nags Head requires a permit but Kill Devil Hills doesnt.

Here is a map of the counties:

Image

As far as the map shows, we can drive on the beach almost all the way up to Kitty Hawk. I know there are a few places that are marked off. Oregon Inlet is a great place to wheel at as well. There is tons of beach there to mess around in.

Camping: You can only camp in designated areas. Here is a list of camp grounds in the National Park:

CAMPGROUNDS NO. SITES OPENED RESERVATION CLOSES FEES
Oregon Inlet 120 04/14/06 NOT RESERVED 10/09/06 $20
Cape Point 202 05/26/06 NOT RESERVED 09/04/06 $20
Ocracoke 136 04/14/06 04/14/06 - 10/09/06 10/09/06 $20
Frisco 127 04/14/06 NOT RESERVED 10/09/06 $20

Also, we can have a ground fire as long as its below the High Tide mark. Hope this clears up some stuff for people.

So here is the real question, do we all want to get permits to go up to Nags Head?

As long as permits aren't too expensive, and relatively easy to obtain, I'm up for it.

I'm wrestling with where to stay. I can't leave until about 7 on Friday night which gets me to Frisco around 3am IF Washington traffic cooperates. I may be looking to stay somewhere a little farther north so I can get at least a little sleep. What time are we planning on starting Saturday morning?

Don't know yet if Dave is accompanying me... he's having knee surgery this week and might not be up for a long ride.

If the permits are only a couple bucks I would be in. So who is bringing the fire wood!?

We're going to be heading down Friday after work. I'm not sure if we're heading all the way down to our friend's place on Ocracoke, or staying north of that. Who all is going down Friday evening?

Personally, I like the idea of meeting at the ferry to Ocracoke. Lot's of parking space to stretch the trucks out for a "before" picture. 8)

Just called Nags Head and they said that the permit is $25. I forgot to ask if there open on Saterday but they did say that we can pick up the permit any time after October 1st. Personally, I am willing to fork out the money for the pass. Dean says that its maybe 5 miles of beach so I dont think he wants to. The pass stays vaild from October 1st to April 30th. So anyone who wants to do a OBX run in the spring, or anytime for that matter, I am down! So its really up to yall on weather we get the passes or not.

Ben, you can stay with Mutt or you can join Dean and myself at the campsite on Friday in Nags Head.

Ugg - My plans are what my boss calls "fluid" at the moment, but I'm thinking I'll stop somewhere north of our destination Friday night, so I would be willing to meet up with you at Kitty Hawk Saturday morning.

uvalax - Riding some more Sunday would be cool - I'm planning to bring my fishing gear and maybe drop a line in the surf. I'm kind of new to surf fishing, but any excuse to hang out in the sand is good enough.

Can't make it this year. Hopefully I can make it next year. Or to URE sometime in the near future. I'm still unlifted but do have 245/70/16 Yokohama At's now.

Yes, it will be nice to have my Jeep on something less paved.

I guess we can always try for Uwharrie in November.
Or go crazy and hit Tennesse in January or something.

18 days!

My plans have changed slightly. My wife and I are taking Friday off and heading down to Ocracoke on Thursday after work. We are staying at the Silver Lake Inn (I think) Thursday and Friday nights.

Are we meeting at the ferry to Ocracoke? If so, do we plan to wheel Ocracoke before heading back to "mainland"? If we're wheeling Ocracoke, we'll meet you on the Ocracoke side of the ferry.
