Is it too early for another trip to OBX? I found some people who couldn't make it to OBX last year so if they are interested, this would give them another opportunity.

Since Feb 19th is a President's day, people with kids will have day off from school at least. How does Feb 17 (Say) - 19 (Mon) sound?

August to September would be ideal time as far as air / water temp is concerned :) However, it's not too bad at 38-53 air temp and 46 water temp --- not that I'm planning to go swimming or anything, but picnic on the beach might be nice.

Do I hear the start of a first annual Carolina Lost OBX Spring Fling? Those dates are free for me right now.

I'm going :) I think uvalax is going as well.

The exact dates are still open, though. We could start on Saturday, go drive around, maybe come back late in the evening or camp it out if you are brave enough. I think we can see what happens as far as camping goes, if it gets too cold we just leave late.

Do they have group cabins? Do you have phone numbers / URL where I can get more info?

OK, I do need a firm count soon. We'll also need to work out where we want to meet. If it's just up to me I would go to Ocracoke, but that would be out of the way for VA folks right? If you're coming south from VA you would probably want to meet at Kitty Hawk or somewhere around there right?

Let me know, please.

We'll look into cabin right now, for one night only for our family. If you have a cabin you'd like to stay at, please share the info so we can can closeby.

EDIT: we booked one night at KOA campground, 1 cabin for 1 night.

The URL here shows you map of the area. You can go to Google map to get better map of the place where we will meet.

I think we should meet in Nags Head somewhere, I'll let you know again where exactly in Nags Head we'll meet.

That should be the best compromise for people coming from NC and from VA. It's a longer drive for me (I've heard people say the last 1/4 of the route takes the most time). It should take about 4 hours based on Google's guess.

Let's plan on meeting at 9:00AM.

No need to get on the ferry.

Oh and KOA cabin rate for one night is $39 plus tax. KOA campground is in Hatteras.

I think I'm going to explore the towns and maybe see some shipwrecks on Sunday :)

Here is the info I posted on the OBX run in October:

Quote:
Ok guys. For those of you wondering about if we need a permit to drive on the beach, I found a site that gives all the details needed:

http://www.outer-banks.com/visitor-info/offroad.asp

Southern Shores and Kitty Hawk do not allow OHV's on the beach at any time during the year. Nags Head requires a permit but Kill Devil Hills doesnt.

Here is a map of the counties:

Image

As far as the map shows, we can drive on the beach almost all the way up to Kitty Hawk. I know there are a few places that are marked off. Oregon Inlet is a great place to wheel at as well. There is tons of beach there to mess around in.

Camping: You can only camp in designated areas. Here is a list of camp grounds in the National Park:

CAMPGROUNDS NO. SITES OPENED RESERVATION CLOSES FEES
Oregon Inlet 120 04/14/06 NOT RESERVED 10/09/06 $20
Cape Point 202 05/26/06 NOT RESERVED 09/04/06 $20
Ocracoke 136 04/14/06 04/14/06 - 10/09/06 10/09/06 $20
Frisco 127 04/14/06 NOT RESERVED 10/09/06 $20

Also, we can have a ground fire as long as its below the High Tide mark. Hope this clears up some stuff for people.

So here is the real question, do we all want to get permits to go up to Nags Head?

For the guys comin from VA Beach, I can meet up with yall around 64 or 664 and make the rest of the drive in convoy if yall want. Let me know.
