looking at moving in the next 6-8 months (just can not stand living here)
wondering if i can get a first hand account of what the place is like
looking at the alamance county area

are there places to offroad the liberty??
how are the carry laws as far as firearms go??
Window tint laws??
lift laws??? etc..
gun ranges??

any help would be appreciated

Alamance county, NC... Nice area, not the fastest growing or the most populated, but a wide array of different areas.

NC is a great place to raise a family, there is a lot of wonderful things going on in the state.

Wheeling the Liberty would be pretty easy, a quick drive down to the Charlotte vicinity for Uwharrie National Forest, or a step over and up into VA for some of their spots. The major challenge, probably beyond what most folks want to dow ith their DD Liberty is over in Tellico.

Carry laws are very nice, a simple course gets you your CCW license, usually 4 meetings and $50 total. I need to go get mine, I am such a slacker.

Window tint laws... Well I tinted my fronts to match my rears, they look dark, every year at inspection I pay an extra $10, but I've never been pulled for the tint.

Lift laws are simple, make sure your tires are covered by fenders or flares, and you are supposed to keep it within 12" of stock. This IS the south though, so there are PLENTY of vehicles on the road bigger than that.

Gun ranges are sparse, but around, and I am not that familiar with Alamance county to offer much there. If you are into Sporting Clays, there's an awesome range in Sanford, NC, an Orvis Sporting Clays that I wish I could visit, but I am the only shooter around here and too broke to do it anyway!

There's a lot of good about living in NC, but it has its drawbacks just like any other place, it's hot, it can be crowded, they think the best sport in the world is college basketball, it can be a challenge to meet new people, and it's spread out like crazy. Overall it's great though...

Personally I don't think it's too hot. Crowded? Mmm ... not compared to LA or SoCal. Plenty of room to breathe here in NC I'd think. Agree with the College basketball thing. Challenge to meet new people ... hmm ... wife would have something to say about that

yah not into the whole collage basketball thingy but we were looking for a little more open spaces

moved from little place called yorkville near rockmart georgia to this insanity they call california
SO the move is going to be to a less populated place
In ga it took 20-30 min to get to the grocery store
it is nice to only have a 20min commute to work but
on the other hand got to love having your own piece of land that dosent cost a million dollars

Lots of land in NC are still somewhat inflated. Check craigslist to find these lots. Try also various "relocation" website as they'll have rental and lease properties on hand as well.

You're looking in a fine area. If you were FROM Cali, I'd warn you about the humidity and stagnant oppressive heat common to the area...but you're from GA, so you know all about that heat. NC will be much like home...but the dirt isn't quite as red.

However, are you looking to be near a specific city? The only reason I ask is that there are a number of areas in Southern VA that might be worth considering too. If you're interested in options, let me know and I'll dig up some info for you. I've been shopping land near the VA/NC border myself. Living at the beach is GREAT...but I miss the hills too.

The carry laws are pretty good in NC. VA and NC have a reciprocity agreement. And NC has an ever-widening list of reciprocity states.

I don't know about ranges in that area. Sorry. I'd suggest going to Google Maps and doing a business search around the nearest town to where you find property that peaks your interest.

Live in the middle of the city near san fran, ca right now
and i really miss the spread we had in Ga
People are too close here thats why we are looking to move
also cause for 500,000 here you get a shack that needs renovations
there you get a ready to move in house with land for 3 to 5

I do just about anything
I hav driven towtrucks limos taxis
repaired all of the above oil changes tune ups
general construction
Maintiance for apartments
Mangment for apt omplexes
welding
electrical
yard care
etc etc etc etc ........really just about anything

Well, I'm sure there are plenty of Certified Mechanic jobs available in Cary.

US 64 has the AutoPark, which basically has almost every car brand in about a mile strip. That would probably be a 45 minute or so commute for you.

Beyond that, on the other side of Cary is Capital Style Limousine (http://www.capitallimo.com/). They have a real nice setup. That would probably be a 55 minute or so commute for you.

Management and maintenance of Apartments check Miller Valentine Group (mvg.com) they have some sites in NC and have positions available off and on. I have dealings with them in Ohio and know the Regional Manager real well

Homes - We looked at building a Log Cabin home. A 5,000 sq ft was about $100k for the shell. Land isn't bad either. $400,000 will get you a nice 4 or 5 bedroom on the water (lake, resevoir, or river).

Jobs - The market seems great, if you are looking for a job. Lousy if you are looking to hire. I am about 50 people short on my shift and recruiting can't fill them. It seems we also have a very hard time finding Supervisors, even with $50,000+ salaries and a relocation package? (Pharma Mnufacturer)

Off-Roading - My experience has been limited to the beaches so far. I need some armor before I take it to Uwharrie.

Alamance county - Personnaly, I hate that county, but I'm biased. I got a speeding ticket there and my lawyer had to fight to even get a reduced speed. Anywhere else I could have gotten it dismissed or dropped to mechanical failure. Oh well...

Weather - I've only been here a year, but I love the weather. Last year the Summer was very mild tough (uncharacteristically so). The winter was too. I recall seeing people mowing their lawns on Christmas Eve.

Food - The biggest difference I've notied has een in the food. I've travelled all over the country. The first time you see Fried tender loin in a brown gravy bath.... LOL I hate the barbeque (it's vinegar and red pepper based) but everything else is good Southern Style cooking. Just hope you aren't a vegetarian.

Therein lies the problem. $50k/year salaries do not afford $600k homes.

One reason I'm relocating out of this area is that I cannot find interesting jobs that pay me what I get paid now ... not by a long shot.
