So I went down Wilimngton yesterday to hang out with OHV and his local club. We did a meet and greet and Jeep show at the dealership down there. It was pretty cool. We went and I found out how I dont really like wheelin in sand! Dam stuff heated my tranny up quick. But there was a reason behind that one I think. So we let my tranny cool down and me and my buddy headed back to Goldsboro.

We're cruisin down I40 and I noticed my AC started pumpin hot air!? I look and the darn temp gauge is almost pegged, then my batt light comes on! So right away I knew the belt wasn't there no more! doo doo!

So I pull over, no power steering, and pop the hood. Luckily the belt was hangin on the front skid. So I call the wife, "Hey babe! How much do you love me!?" haha So i make a call to autozone back in Gboro and they have the idle pulley in stock. I smoked the bearings in the pulley. So she make a 40 minute drive down with my tools and the pulley and we get er replaced and all is well now.

The pulley had the lovely clay mud caked all over still even after I pressure washed the engine and all. That darn mud and water out there in UWharrie is crucial!!!

Thought I would share!

SOunds like a familair story don't it Daniel! haha

Hey, that DOES sound familiar! Bummer, sorry to hear it happened to you. I hope your fix is better than my temp fix I did, that last me about 6 hrs of driving...

Hope you had a good time, though!

Mike, had the same thing happen to me at GWNF 3 years ago. That is one part that I would carry a spare of in the KJ.

Well, I've been having weird noises and vibrations coming from the front for a week. After 3 trips to the car wash, most of the noises have gone away. The HD fan is still off balance, so I will probably need to get to the service department at some point before the weather heats up.

This begs the question, guys...

Was it worth the dip into the goo?

I mean, it looked cool from MY seat and all, but I am curious... Where does it fall in the balance?

Has anyone checked into the regular forum with this issue? Is it covered in any other threads?

i checked out the radiator issue... it appears to be quite common and so far the only good solution ive come up with is to get a flex a lite fan and attach a kill switch

as far as the pully its the first ive heard of it

living here on the east coast i beleive i have a say about the goo...i have only incounterd the clay once and it took out my, pully...now that said...i do not heisitate to go in a mud puddle w/ or w/out water in it and nothing has happend...i think that it is about what the mud or watery mess is made of...take a look at some of are pics from my local club meet and greet show on the meet and greet thread in wilmington...

No man, I had just changed my tranny and diff fluids, and with my Paragon experience, I just don't like those little ventures. For instance, my Jeep and I went 451 miles today for work. If I had any issues, I would be caught quite a ways from home, and out of business for the time it took to fix...

The idler pully is DEFINITELY an issue, as I know there was at least one other vehicle from Paragon that had an issue, then these guys... This is a small sampling, but pretty indicative.

For the record, what would having a kill switch do for the fan? The issue is getting the motor packed with mud & water, right? So what is needed is simply an advanced motor, when I used to sell HVAC there were "styles" of motor, open, closed, explosion proof, that's all I really remember but there were others... So y'all need a motor that is suitable for spinning while submerged!

Having the Liberty go through that muck and make it out the other side was worth it in itself. Just that it could do it was great. It would have been nice if the muck had been just clear water.

Would I do it again, probably not without figuring out how deep it was.

Okay, so my Fan Clutch is about to bite the dust.
Replacement cost : $214.

Clean out the brakes: $40.

Fluid maintenance (radiator, differential, transmission, transfer case) : $482

Keep the Liberty healthy and wheeling past 100k miles, priceless

So much for the tax rebate.

I guess it would be cheaper to have a fluid changing party. Alas, I have do not have the garage, tools, or allowed governance to change out fluids at my house.

Well, I picked up the Liberty after work.
I guess a fluid change was needed, cause she's running pretty smooth now. But, seems the steering is a little off. I need new tires, so that's another $500 hit. I think it can wait a month.

Ugh, so apparently the Catalytic Converter is bad according to the check engine light. The repairs are going to cost $814. Ugh.
