Anyone know of any good places to ride near Highlands NC. I'll be up there around Thanksgiving and was looking for a good place. OR anyone want to join up with me? I'm part of the GaLOST Chapter??

You'll have to be a little more specific. Here is Highlands, NC?
There are a few trails on Brown mountain and of course there's Telico.

Highlands is sort of South west of Ashville. I have been to Telico and your right it is fairly close. I guess I would like to do something different ( Not to say telico wasn't great) Where is brown mountain? Is there a town near by I could look up on mapquest to check out the distance? Also too I tend not to ride alone. Always good to have some to pull you out if you get stuck, ya know.Is Brown Mountain trails marked well? Can I get Forest road maps??

I haven't been to Brown Mountain. Jeepinmama went there once. The trails aren't marked very well apparently. I feel like I still need a transmission skid in order to do Telico. Good for you for doing. I don't know anything about the Highlands, but I would always be up for going some place new. I've been to Uwharrie many times and I'm ready for a new scene.

Of course, after spending an arm and leg on a muffler, I am not in the position to go wheeling for a few months.

Did the one shop reimburse you for the tow, was everything (except the new muffler) covered by DC?

They paid for the tow. Nothing was covered by DC. I've been a few thousand past warranty already. I don't think DC would replace a cat with a dent in it as "regular wear and tear".

Now I have to find a way to get a skid plate fabbed that will fit over the transmission pan and the cat crossover. Yippie.

Makes me wish I went to mechanic school instead of college. $80-100/hour for a labor is unreal.

i live north of asheville.. near burnsville... i heard that there are some trails in TN.. i haven't went to check them out.. the brown mtn trails are north/east of me and i have read they are not all that.. i will probably go check them out in springtime next year.. i usually just take old fire trails and old roads i find on my gps.. so far nothing 'awesome' but nice scenery and find some cool waterfalls/hiking trails.. i am still looking for some cool trails to try..

also.. here is what I found out about this scenic auto tour in the Unaka Mtns of TN/NC border.. I went on it some last summer but i ran out of time.. its on the way we always goto get lotto tickets.. but brpn#2 and I are going to hit this and see how it is.. I have taken a bunch of Forest Roads in TN and NC that have some nice scenery.. nothing like rough trails that are in Telico but still cool scenic drives.. most of the higher elevation ones are closed for winter.. but in springtime we are going to hit some and check them out again. Alot got damaged a few years ago during the Hurricanes that flooded the area..

here is some info on the Unaka Mountain Auto Tour

http://gorp.away.com/gorp/activity/byway/tn_unaka.htm

View breathtaking scenery along TN 107 through Limestone Cove, FR 230 across Unaka Mountain, and TN 395 from Indian Grave Gap to Erwin. A high-clearance vehicle is recommended for FR 230, closed during icy winter months. Sections of I-26 between the TN-NC line and Johnson City provide pastoral and mountain views. US 19W/TN 36, the Spivey Mountain Road, winds through rural Appalachia.
