OK guys, I got a new toy. Plasma Cutter. Also bought a welder, but I think I'm gonna take it back and get a better one. I want a good MIG welder. Anyway, I bought these to try to make my own winch bumper. I'm lookin at something similar to the SC Rockstar with a winch provision. I might tackle the SFA swap myself, well, me and a friend...

I may build some stuff for our rigs if you guys want it. My wife's best friend is married to a professional pipewelder. I hear he is really good. I have a 24X40 shop here at the house. I've also bought a lot of other odd and end equipment. So we should have everything we need to make some rock rails and bumpers and whatnot. I'll keep you guys posted.

The plasma cutter ROCKS though. I don't know what man did before the invention of plasma...

Oh, and before someone calls me an idiot, I know plasma wasn't invented. It is a naturally occuring state for superheated gas.

I was given one 2 yrs ago and have never used it, probably a lot easier and less money going through all those cut off wheels lately. Make sure we gets lots of pic on your creations!

Very cool! I can't wait to see what you build. What welder did you end up choosing?

I took the welder back. I'm looking at a Hobart 140. I'm just a little concerned it may not be beefy enough to weld 1/4 and/or 1/2 " plate.

I've started on the bumper (kinda). It's in the Fabrication thread. The entire bumper should be no more than 7 inches from the front of the existing frame crossmember. I'll do a mock up tomorrow and Friday. I'll have pics of the mockup posted this weekend.

The good news is with a little cutting you can get 2x2 tube stock to slide straight down the frame rail (inside of it). This will allow me to put a bolt through horizontally through the frame and my 2" tube and then put 4 bolts coming up from the bottom. That should be a SOLID mounting surface. Then the two 2" square tubes will be briged by a piece of heavy 6" channel. After that, it's a matter of skinning out the rest of the bumper and deciding on either moving the washer bottle (most likely) or just cover it.
