theres a tru value or somethin or other misc store within a mile of inlet drive on the way to carolina beach north, ya can get your beach permit there and grab a fire bucket for camp fires and wood if you don't bring either of those with you. I'd suggest bringing those with you to save that much money, plus that wood they sell always seems to be either wet, or green :P

Is this what they call the outer banks? My wife and I are trying to go there this week some time. Not sure on the day though. We didn't bother trying with all of the people that would be goign out this weekend.

I'm not sure about this, place. I hear it is quite a drive from us, but if we take the ferry out, it will lessen it up a bit... Any tips for the area?

no the outer banks are northern n.c. coast. carolina beach is the north end of wilmington (wrightsville beach) which is the southern coast. its only a 2-2.5 hour drive straight down I40. it is north carolinas tourist beach. most other beaches are more private.

But the same kind of deal then? You can still drive out and camp on the beach?

Do you need any special permit to go out on to it, or to have a fire???

What is there to do once you are on the beach? Fish, Snorkel, or something?

Sorry for the rather dumb question, I have only been to a handful of beaches in my life, most in Okinawa, JP.

yea you can go camp out there. and i guess you do have to have a permit to camp. i know they charge to drive out, i think its $10 if i remember correctly, not sure if you have to pay additional to camp. i never got a chance to go down this weekend so i was planning on next weekend. basically you hang out, drink, swim. i always go down with a group of friends when i head to the beach so we always figure out something to do 8)

Oh, well, there you go!... I have no friends here, so It will be just me, the wife, a WHOLE LOT of beer, and if my wife has it her way, HER BLOODY MOTHER!!!
Hence the "Whole lot of Beer".

Build a fire, get drinkin, sit, and stare at fire.

You can drive on the beach in the OBX. Only in Corolla, its a 4X4 beach with wild ponies. Like the others said its northern NC. Oh and you cant camp on that beach (OBX) but it sure is nice. Carolina beach is real nice as well either way its a win win...well maybe except for the mother in law.

We just left Carolina beach this morning. It's $20 a day now for beach access (includes camping). OBX has a limited season that you can drive on the beach now. Not sure when it is. Has something to do with the sea turtle's nests hatching (as far as the timing).

Carolina Beach is really nice. if you drive out on it, go as far North as you can go. There are all kinds of shallow tidal pools there when the tide goes out. You can drive through some of the shallow ones (check them first). Don't camp near the water, remember that there is a tide that comes in. You'll see where people are camping further back.

It rained us out this morning, so we just packed up and came home. It was gonna rain all day. Sunday it was beautiful though. Not too hot, water was nice, just chilled and watched the guys fishing and the waves... Bery relaxing.

If you don't want to camp on the beach (or can't cause you have a trailer like I did this weekend) then you can go to the KoA campground about 10 miles north of there. NICE campground with a pool, showers, etc. Right in the middle of town but it has a nice woodsy evironment.

OBX is nice too. Been there several times.

you can drive on the beach at manteo / bodie lt. house too and they have a 'camp ground' next to the beach entrance as well

instead of making it seasonal, that particular beach has put up poles to restrict how far towards the bridge you can get

also, if ya plan to go to carolina beach more than 2 or 3 days a year, it's far cheaper to just get a seasonal permit instead of a day/by/day deal

well sence no one asked me...lol... CB is my back yard... it's fun... you can drive the town owned north end for 20.00 a 24hr pass or season pass for 60.00, i think, you can camp/drink/campfires... things you can't do, drive on the dunes, any faster then 15mph and don't go into the water... first you can get a ticket, 2nd it's saltwater... why would you want to drive in it? i will be down for this weekend... and i'm upset at you rescue, you never told me you were down... there is CNC 4x4 club going to be down here the weekend of 11th through 13... if you all come down we'll do a kj thing as well...

WARNING - intensive thread jacking follows...

Sry for not giving a heads up. I did post on the ECTR section in Costals board. Thought you might read it there. Not to worry though. I'll have to make another trip down there soon to pick up my OME springs. Just gotta tell you when to order them.

I had a CV come loose on the trip back. I stripped the end of the inner axle shaft when I pounded the CV off of it to replace it. Now it won't hold an axle. I even tack welded it and it broke loose. It was a light tack weld though. I just ordered a new inner shaft and two low mileage (About 20k) MOPAR CV's off of ebay. So I'll get all of them swapped out for the October trip. I should have the lift fixed too (if the springs work). Might even have the new rear tire carrier built and my On Board Air done.

Back to the topic --- Thread jacking complete

ALSO, there is a place near here, and I'll have to get the name, where you CAN drive on the dunes. Oak Island, Cedar Island, something like that. Any of you guys have any details on that?
