if you want to camp.. and i mean CAMP.. there is only one place that is the shiznit.. Ocracoke.. they NPS (national park service) runs a campground on the outskirts of Ocracoke.. you have miles of beach and nobody on them.. you can drive on the beach if you want.. i didnt have my KJ back when I first tent camped on Ocracoke.. but it was a blast.. you take a ferry in and a ferry to Cape Hattaras island..from there you can go north as far as you want on hwy 12 *i think*.. but anyways.. camping on Ocracoke is peaceful.. dark.. you will see more stars then you ever thougt possible.. and waking up just on the other side of the dunes in a tent is awesome. i highly recommend it.. i might have some pics somewhere. if i do i will post some |

OBX run is the first week of October. We camped at Frisco the last two years, but we might start a little further south this year. LOST Fools Run up in Pennsylvania is held by the Mid-Atlantic group, but we had 2 Carolina folks attend. I would like to get at least one Uwharrie Trip in and maybe head over the mountains to Tennesse. An easy Brown Mountain or Telico trip will probably be in the works too. Everybody needs to make note of their Yahoo IM on the meeting thread so we can discuss trips and other club stuff. |

When does Uwharrie open for the season? I would love to go camping. I haven't been since I was a kid. My wife on the other hand has never been camping, so it is going to be fun the first time. |

I've been told the cost is $75 per vehicle to ride the ferry. Any truth to this? |

Any truth to this? no way.. the ferry back and forth from Ocracoke to Cape Hattaras Island is free.. the ferry from mainland to Ocracoke (we took the cedar island one.. not many people take that one compared to the others.. its 2 1/2 hrs long.. awesome views.. goes by sand bars and such.. anyways.. the cost is $15 for that.. if you have larger vehicle with trailer and stuff like that it cost more.. you can see all you want on rates and maps they have pdf on ncferry.org.. most people drive the long way and take the bridges and such to get to the outer banks.. if you do that you are missing out.. take the cedar island ferry and have a blast.. rest for 2 1/2 hrs |
