Only thing you need to do is be in the Carolinas and have a Jeep.

Hey guys, I did a search for uwharrie and this thread came up. I might be in fayettenam the first weekend in May and was wanting to go on a trail ride. If possible, I was thinking about going to uwharrie. However, I've never been there and I'm not sure how well a basically stock liberty will do there. If it's doable without too much unnecessary hassle, I would definitely enjoy getting together with some of you folks and making a day of it. Right now, my plans are preliminary and highly subject to change, but just wanted to put a bug in your ears.

The stock Libby will be OK if u take it easy and have a good spotter. What size tires, etc. I think I did some stuff there with mine on 29s with open diffs a few years back. I think I even did Daniel with open diffs and 245 70 tires. There are bypasses for most of the bigger stuff. Just don't go alone. Try to go with someone who has been a few times to keep you from heading through stuff the wrong way and stuff.

The east coast trail raiders Jarhead mentioned have officially disbanded. However the members still hang out together and get together for rides. We just went out to URE with some of them last weekend. One of the guys just bought one of the skyjacker show wranglers and was wheeling that. On the other end we had a guy in a stock grand Cherokee with what looked like 30" or 29" tires. He was minus a muffler at the end but he's a nut anyway and we all knew that muffler was a goner on day one LOL. I will post a pic or two tomorrow.

Rescu2000:

Thanks for the info. My Jeep is still pretty stock. Open diffs front and rear, 245 series street bias tires (halfway used up), mopar and all j skids (need to reinstall), and all j boulder bars. I don't plan on being stupid with it as I need for the Jeep to get me back home, so it's good to know I have some options as to what obstacles I can try. It would be awesome to get together with other liberty folks if everything works out.

Actually Dickey Bell isn't like it was when I wheeled there with my Libby.. It is more technical now.. When I wheel it, I use my 07 JKU Rubi..

Have you been up dickey bell this season? They did a lot of work on the trails making them easier. They even put som big rocks in front of kodiak rock so it doesn't have that sheer 5' face to climb up. We didn't do all of dickey bell last weekend but the long steep hill climb on Dutch John was a cake walk this year. As things wash out all of this will change though. We did have a tree across the path and a log bridge out but those were easily driven around (after Zach tried going over it and hanging up in the Cherokee with no lift and street tires LOL) it was fun pulling his heavy butt off of it though.

My wife took the Libby away from me at that point because she knew it was heavily armored and she didn't have to worry about damaging it. So I had the wrangler for the rest of The weekend. I will say she drove the heck out of it. She pointed the Libby at everything and it just walked over it. I was impressed because she is usually a nervous wreck as a passenger. She drove it all over uwharrie thou without any concern.

Due to some time constraints, I doubt I'll be hitting uwharrie the first weekend in May. Still a possibility, though slim.

Just realized there was a Carolina page on here. I guess I should scroll down more often? For the Charleston area, are there any decent areas to trail ride around West Ashley? I've found some power line access roads off Bees Ferry but some have some pretty deep bog holes. I'm only riding on Dunlop Rover H/T's since the KK is my DD (other than my Honda American Classic) so I don't want to get too technical or too deep.
Thanks

Welcome I am from the upstate area and there are very few place to ride in south Carolina. Most of us just do like you do power line trails, state parks, and sewr main trails. But if your ever up this way hit me up we can go to the gulches.

Hey All, I am in Camden, SC. I just use my CRD as the DD so no real off-roading for me unless it is at work (solid-waste facilities). I just got done with my timing belt R&R but I only did the belt. I will catch the water pump and t-stat next go round. If you are ever travelling down I-20, feel free the stop by. Britt
