Would Carolina Lost be willing to take myself and others from My Jeep Club on a Tellico Trip.
Sometime in April or may of 06 would be great. Let me know
Thanks.

Tellico is pretty hardcore in some spots, from what I've heard. I have a friend with a Wrangler who has been and probably wouldn't mind being a guide.
He only has a 2" lift on his Wrangler, because he doesn't believe in the big lift/big tire thing. It's all about how you drive.

I would love to go with some other Liberty's.
April is so far off, but that sounds like a good idea.

Can you suggest another area for stock to mildly built Jeeps. Also what is the best time of year to camp there?

You might consider Uwharrie. Just about any Jeep can handle it.

There is camping in the park.

Yes, Uwharrie would be the better alternative.

It closes in November and reopens in the spring.
You can even camp on the trail and wheel at night.

Well, I am not a member of Carolina LOST but if I am available I'd love to come out. Uwaharrie is a fun place to off road.

May camping would still be cool enough, not very humid and hot yet at that point.
It is a little rainer in May tho. September and October camping is always a good time and the trails in Uwharrie are at about their roughest at that point.

We had also dicussed doing the big park in Tennesse. Apparently that place has the opportunity to get lost in it.
That could be a good spring trip.

I was just out in Tellico over New Year's in my CJ, and there are certainly parts that you could hit in a libby. Now i wouldnt advise taking any newbie drivers through it, but it could be done with a little experiance behind the wheel. Yes, there are ALOT of trails you shouldnt hit, but if you had a knowledgable guide they could take you on a pretty good run through the ORV. Just dont make the mistake I did, and forget to check the weather before going on a camping trip out there. While a CJ might do great off-road, it dosent work as well as a tent (at least when you are wrapped in a tarp sleeping under it) when there is the thunderstorm of the century that dumps rain on you for about 5 hours through the night..

If you stayed on the easy trails, and werent stupid, you could make it pretty far. Just stay away from trails 11-12, I definately TRYED to make it up through there....well i made it about 15 feet up the trail at least, untill I hit some obstacles it looks like would take a tank or a rock buggy to get over...

Thanks for the info.

I know too well about sleeping in the Jeep. The first night of the OBX trip in '05 was the tail end of a tropical storm After attempting to pitch a tent for an hour, I gave up and climbed inside of the Liberty.

from what i have read and heard thru the grapevine.. some of those trails in murphy can eat ur jeep up :) I have to use mine as daily driver so i would only hit some of the smaller trails.. maybe in springtime.. me and brpn#2 might take a ride up there and check it out.. i need to get that tranny skid and put on my front hitch beforehand though :) gonna get a winch *i hope* before springtime

i saw tons of pics here http://www.sfwda.org/

May would work for me.. So would March or April.. But it might be a little too cool to go camping in the mountains at that time of year..

Yeah.. Uwharrie is pretty good for all Jeeps.. I agree about Tellico.. It is known as the Rubicon of the east.. I would love to see how the stock Libby does before I mod it out.. I know it is January.. But I am getting all excited now.. LOL.. :D

Ha, note that you were INSIDE the Liberty. The straight back seats of a CJ5 dont agree too well with sleeping, so I was attempting to sleep UNDER the jeep, with my head under the rear axle and feet pointing towards the grille. It was actually working pretty well (My survival training inspired shelter i made from a couple ponchos helped ALOT) untill the hard rain started leaking through my jeep and onto me, wasnt much I could do about that...
