Uwharrie Run - April 8th, 2006
Uwharrie National Forrest is near Troy, NC. The area has camping, trails, and a lake. Trails range from hiking, horse, to ORV. There are 7+ miles of ORV trails in Uwharrie. The trails range from easy to "OMG!! Did I just do that in my brand new Liberty?!?" There is camping allowed on all ORV trails as long as it isn't designated as no camping. There are campsites close by with showers and toilets. Troy is down the road from Asheboro and the only gas station near Uwharrie is the Eldorado Outpost.

This place is great for beginners and seasoned off-roaders.

What you need
If you plan on doing most of the trails at Uwharrie, rails and skid plates are highly recommended.

Other items
    tow strap
water or something for drinking while wheeling
weather gear (rain coat, boots, etc)
    snacks
old towel to wipe off legs covered with red clay when you get back in your jeep
water bottle or squirt gun to help clear the window and mirrors of mud

I'll be bring the grill and some burger fixings.
You should bring your own drink and chips.
If you want something else on the grill, besides burgers, bring that.

You can move me to the "Can't go" section. :-( That's the day after my wedding and, while my fiancee is very understanding and is trying to learn to love my hobbies...I don't think she'll want to go wheeling THAT day. :-)

Here's a fairly decent map of Uwharrie Park.

How about a countdown?

We might be down there that day, will keep eyes open for a bunch of Liberty's. Will be in a red TJ w/ tan hard top. Had planned on going opening day but decided against it - have tried that before and it was always a day of sit and wait, sit and wait....maybe the crowd will have thinned out a little. www.nc4x4.com usually has some uwharrie info threads, you can plan around major events there that can keep the trails clogged all day.

Looks like 4x4wire, Aggressive Krawlers, and "quite a few Isuzus, Hondas, Toyotas, and a Mitsubishi or two" will be there.

Doesn't look to be as big on the 8th. Hopefully the litte bitty 4x4's won't be too much of a pain.

So I found out yesterday that on the 9th, we are going to have my dad's annual golf tournament. I can wheel on the 8th, however I cannot stay that night. I will be driving back that night. Dean, how far is Uwharri from your place?

About 1 hour and 45 minutes from my place.
I have to be back home Saturday night, so I don't think anyone will be staying the night.

Ok so its a 4:45-5 hour drive for me. What time were you planning on being home Dean? I'm thinking that I will convoy back to Cary with you and make a pit stop at your place for a few minutes while I stretch the legs. Let me know what your plan is.

I figure we'll probably have enough wheeling by 3 pm.
Should get us back to Cary around 5 or so.

I'll still bring "The Grill" or the "Mini Grill" so we can have some burgers on the trail.

I have the factory renegade rails. If they dont hold up I guess that will give me a reason to buy some better ones.

If you can swing it, call up Andy at Carolina Rock Shop and ask him if he can build you a set. We were just there yesterday getting ours on (group buy!). Sorry you missed out on it. The stock rails should work but I wouldent do anything too crazy. You are welcome to ride with us and when it gets to the point where your stock KJ cant make it anymore, you are welcome to ride with me. LoganSix made a run at Uwharri with the stock rails and did fine, however I would not suggest using the stock rails as your only means of protection.

Stock rails should protect fine.
You can probably get a few runs in Uwharrie out of them, maybe more if you are careful. Without a lift, you will be doing some scrapping on the erosion burms. I don't plan on taking the group on all the tough stuff, just because I need another skid to protect my pretty new muffler system.

So, probably won't hit Kodak Rock or Daniel, but it will be challenging enough for first timers.

If I can clear Saturday's schedule, I'll come and play. I'll know for sure on Friday.

We're going on Saturday, but probably won't get down there until around lunchtime. Maybe we'll see y'all mid-trail somewhere! Have fun if we don't catch up with you this time, but we will definitely be looking for a group of Liberty's. Will be in a fairly stock red TJ w/tan hard top.
