Just found this site on the web.

The outdoor theater might work for us.
He used a painters sheet from Home Depot.

A painter's sheet might be a good solution for us! Anyone have one?

Ben, can you take a pict of the connections on the projector for me? Or just let me know what brand/model it is so I can make sure I have the connection to go from my computer to the projector.

What weekend are we doing this trip? I've lost track of which October weekend we're going. :?

You guys are going to be very disappointed if you try to use those iPod type FM transmitters. They only go a few feet and even then, it's not strong. To spread it across even a few trucks sitting next to each other you'll need something a lot more powerful.

Yeah.. I can do that when I get back to work.. I am off until Monday... :D First vacation in 3 years..
From what I have seen on it.. It accepts DVI, RGB/VGA, Composite, and Component... It is a nice projector.. It is a Toshiba portable model..

Hey.. I found this for the FM Transmitter problem... What do you guys think of this? It says it will do a whole house.. Should be strong enough to do quite a few KJs on a beach...

Yea, I have my experience with those FM transmitters. Trust me, that is the LAST resort for sound. I'll probably haul a bunch of audio stuff down there on loan from my friend who works for Bose for sound.

Congrats on the well-deserved vacation Ben! I hope you had a good time! That sounds like a great projector that you have lined up. I'll bring my VGA adapter and we'll be set.

Hmmm... I wonder about the Ordinances on sound levels.... That might be something we should look into.. If we can do outdoor sound.. That would actually be better

Yeah.. I got back on wednesday last week and still getting things done.. But it all about to settle down real fast for me... Getting to hot down here to want to do much outside and besides that.. We are preparing for hurricane season.. I just ordered my generator I have been wanting.. I got a nice 15000 watt Generac... As for that projector.. It is pretty nice... Small compact and comes with a carrying case.. The benifits of working in an IT Dept.. :D :D

I'm good with it. I'll double-check with my friend on the sound EQ. I keep trying to get him to come with us, but he'd have to rent a 4X4 to go (he didn't buy the Jeep).

I just need to find my vid connector adapter...where did I put that thing....?

BTw, I have a new boombox that came with a streamer adapter.
Basically, it can stream sound to any of 8 radio stations using a single output (i.e. Headphone) jack. It's pretty cool. I can stream my music from my PC (internet radio or mp3's) right to the boombox for better deeper louder sound.

So, depending on the weather, it could be an option for sound.

That might be a pretty good sound solution. And probably a lot more portable than what my friend has in mind (think full Bose surround sound). Let's plan on that streaming boombox.

It uses a mono head phone jack, just like the one in the side of an iPod or computer. So,it should connect to a DVD player from a laptop.

My MacBook Pro has a stereo headphone jack on the side. I'm sure it will work great. I'm bringing some computer speakers as a backup. Anyone that has a power inverter, please bring it. We will need to plug in the computer, the projector, and (maybe) the speakers. So we need to have three (or more) to be safe.

Does anyone have a big white sheet, or painter's dropcloth that we can use as a screen. We did movie night at a friend's house the other day and a king-size sheet was PLENTY of screen space for 10 people to watch the movie on.

I have a power inverter.

We'll have to sacrafice two KJ's to hold the screen.
However, if the weather is nice, we could just sit outside, so that wouldn't matter.

Good on the power inverter! We have one. I'm planning to get one before the trip if I can find one in a local store. That'll make two. Anyone else have one?

I definitely plan to string the screen up between two Jeeps and sit outside in beach chairs. If it's not nice enough to sit outside, I'm not going to have my $2500 MacBook Pro outside either. And I don't think Ben will want his projector out there either.

Hey all, Big Hello from AZ. Was cruising the boards and saw this thread. So did the Beach Movie Night ever go over? I want to do that for the Fun In The Sun Run II that AZLOST is hosting in January. Funny that you guys were discussing this almost a year before we were.

Just my thoughts, as I went on the JK release on the Rubicon and one of the Jeep Jamboree USA guys did the same thing for the camp staff on a couple nights. He used a projector and a laptop/ dvd player along with about 7 of the JKs. He set the projector up BEHIND just a plain white sheet strung up between the roll bars of 2 jeeps. He had the projector on the reverse image setting so that when it shown through the sheet, we were looking at the correct image. For sound, I think he used like set up like LoganSix's boombox, had a heavy duty FM transmitter that transmitted the sound IN STEREO to about 6 other jeeps (top down, of course) placed around the audience. I think it each one was on a different channel.

It was by cool one of the coolest non wheeling things I've ever seen done with Jeeps. Watching TheLast Indian (the old motorcycle land race movie??) while eating popcorn on the Rubicon Trail It was way cool.

If you havent had your movie night, hope it goes well. If you did, lets hear how it went.

Later,

Mike
