In my never ending supply of things that would be cool to do, there is one that maybe you guys can help out with. http://www.mobmov.org/default.php MobMov, Guerilla Movies, and the like is basically creating your own drive-in movie for you and anyone who can tune it. Check out the site to learn more. My Idea Have the projector in one Liberty. Bring along a custom screen. Tie the screen between two other Liberty's or in the trees. Transmit the audio thru FM or someone with a loud sound system. Presto! Movies on the Trail! I figure, it's something to think about for the overnight trips. Heck, we could even just play back trail runs from that day while eating dinner, if it is dark enough. |

Just seeing how long it would take for Radio Richard to speak up. Not only does Richard have the pounding music in the back of his Liberty. He's able to broadcast his iPod music through FM. So, the FM transmitor might be able to work with the DVD player to transmit the movie audio to the other vehicles. Or, we could play it out of Richard's Jeep with the tailgate open. |

I plan to Upgrade the speakers sometime this summer. Adding a 500w amp for just the speakers. Should be alot crisper at higher decibles. |

We have a MacBookPro 15" at the house which has S-Video out. Ben's got the projector. Richard's got the sound. Who wants to foot $2000 for [b]an inflatable movie screen[b]?? We'll be set then! |

Ben's got the projector. Richard's got the sound. Who wants to foot $2000 for [b]an inflatable movie screen[b]?? We'll be set then! I have a much cheaper alternative....3 or 4 White King sized blankets all sowed together. String it up between 2 or 3 KJ's and ytou got a perfect screen...Minus the $2,000 spent for an inflatable! I think I saw that in some gizmo magazine my brother gets every month, only theirs was alot cheaper. |

We really should get something together for the OBX run. Invision this : "A night beach run with a stop to watch a movie on the beach." Okay, the biggest issue will be the screen and keeping it from blowing away. And I guess everyone would have to sit in their Jeeps to watch the movie or they wouldn't hear the sound. Okay. Discuss. |

How about I open up all my doors and then we have sound! Im thinking that we add weights to the bottom of the "screen" so that it will not move as much. I would love to do something like this for the OBX run! I do have TTC (Top Truck Challenge) on dvd if we cant get enough footage of us wheelin! |

This would rule for the OBX run. We must do it. We could cut slits in the sheet-screen to vent the wind. Two trucks holding the screen the rest of the trucks lining the sides creating a (moderate) wind block for the beach chair movie viewing area. We could park Richard's truck at the back of the whole thing and crank up his radio. If "J'=Jeep and "__"= movie screen, does this little "drawing" make sense? J__J J J J J ...J We could even open the side windows of the flanking Jeeps to create more sound. Just brainstorming. |

I like your thinking Brady. We are going to have to get the gear together to have this work. One quick question, how are we going to get the sound to my KJ from the projector? I am thinking about a new deck with audio in so that may work but I am open to other thoughts. |

Using the Jeeps as a shield for the wind might work. The audio part is going to be tricky. There is some way that the Mob movies are doing it now. Soooo I guess it's time to do some Googling. |

I'm going to redraw that. It didn't turn out like I wanted. Either ignore the periods, or think of them as people kicking back in beach chairs watching a movie, 'cause I'm only using them to space things out... J___J J......J J......J ...J.... There, that looks better. Check around on Google for FM transmitting options guys. We're having a beach party tonight and one of our friends works for Bose. I'll see what we can come up with to move sound from my computer to Richard's truck from this end. He has a big GMK Yukon. Anyone care if a non KJ ends up wanting to join us? My MacBook has a DVI output port and a VGA output port. We should be able to hook it up to Ben's projector, but I need to know what connections the projector has before we commit to this working. We should hook it all up before heading out to make sure the computer and the projector work well together. I say park in front of a Radio Shack and try it out. If it doesn't work we can go in and buy the right cable (and then return the ones that don't work). The audio output of the computer is limited to a combined optical digital output/headphone out (minijack). In layman's terms...headphone jack. So we need either an FM transmitter that hooks up to a regular headphone jack, or a way to cable a headphone jack into Richard's Jeep (without risking pulling too much power from my computer). I only have one battery for my computer and it only lasted through one half of Kung Fu Hustle. The old processors pulled a lot of power, but the Intel processors suck that battery pretty quick too. We'll need shore power for the projector anyway, so we need to think about what we're going to plug into. We'll need a small generator or a convertor to plug into one of the trucks. Any thoughts? This is going to be a blast!! |

[urlhttp://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=140984]FM Transmittor to audio jack[/url] - This should work. Also, I have a convertor and we probably could get a second one and run an extension cord from one of the other vehicles. One for the laptop and the other for the projector. Not pulling him out of the sand. While it would be funny to see a little KJ pullling out a Yukon. Just not going to do it. |

I plan to make it to this OBX trip but I wish we could do it when the weather is still hot. The movie idea sounds like fun but I also enjoy the drive down the beach. As far as the sound goes they make a mic. type thing that will transmitt in FM. If you can find this thing and place it next to the laptop than that might be a quick fix. |

I talked to Matt, my neighbor who sells Bose systems. He said his plan is to have a Wrangler before October and he's going to try to go with us. But, even if he can't go with us, he can hook us up with some great sound options. If, however, Richard gets a new head unit with a line-in jack, we can get a long audio cord as a good fallback plan (it also won't take up as much space inside the trucks). And, as a second line of defense...Richard - Which FM transmitter do you have for the iPod? Is it the Griffin iTrip that plugs into the top?
Or does it just attach via the headphone jack like the Belkin?
If it's the Belkin type that just plugs into the audio jack, we can plug that into my computer and transmit into all our stereos. It wouldn't actually be surround sound, but the sound would surround us. October is plenty warm along the OBX. I was in Ocracoke last October and was out boogie-boarding in the waves all weekend. My wife, who hates temps under 78, was laying out all weekend. It'll be great! And I can't wait to meet this evil temptress Rubicon that lured you away from KJ ownership. So, I think we have sound covered and even have a couple fallback plans. Now we need a screen. Who has 3 or 4 cheap white king-sized sheets that we can sew together and wind-vent with my Spyderco? Ben, can you still bring a projector? We wouldn't do too well if we got all these other parts together and didn't have that. |

Yeah.. I should still be able to get a projector for that weekend.. I already asked my boss and he said that was fine with him... I have a power inverter to run it... As for the sheets.. Walmart specials is the only thing I can think of.. Ben |

This is the unit i have:
I think I might be able to find my iTrip (the FM transmitter that plugs into the headfone jack on the iPod) if the Road Trip FM transmitter dosent work. I am still working on the deck and hardwiring though. |
