I have a kayak and went fishing at my friends pond. The picture shows how I almost got stuck pulling my trailer with my kayak in it.
The blue gill was caught from the dock,I never even had a nibble.
I need a roof top kayak carrier for my KK, I dislike my homemade one.

I fish but haven't managed kayak fishing yet. See lots of people doing it where I work. Looks like a great way to fish, especially if you hook a monster and get a ride out of it! If you know how to fish and have a kayak, just do it! Where in NY are you? And where do you hope to go?

Haven't tried kayak fishing yet but I do fish. I fish on Democrat point and the Sore Thumb. So far I've got 1 blue fish that got away right in front of me :? where the water breaks and 4 sea robins. All on bunker and nothing on calm.

i live by mineola and long beach other nights lol... its a whole different world fishing from a yak..... ya you dont have the distance of a boat and blah blah blah.... but you have stealth... one of my favoite things is watching the cranes hit the bait fish and you usally see the bass hitten the bait right under the craines ... in the yak you can just glide right up throw a small popper and bam fish on... i also fish reynolds chanel in point look out and launch outta magnolia a lot... if you ever want to give it a try there is a place in island park called empire kayaks.. you can rent a yak for the day and go fishing on them ... its a sick time highly recomended... last years biggest was a 30 lb bass and a 18 lb blue ... what a ride

hey cherrie roof top carriers are the way to go... i have 2 styles... a j style rack... which is easy but causes huge issues going into parking garages.... and i also use a yakima show boat loader with mako racks. the show boat makes it easy loading larger yaks because you only lift half the yak up at a time and just push and slide it into the mako racks.. works well also if you have a bad back

Yes I like the J mounts but I'd have to buy crossbars too. When I really want Boiler to make a flat roof rack for the KK. So for know I have too rethink my homemade crossbars.
Oh and find time to use the kayak. :D

Just saw this thread. Kayak fishing is the way to go. Super stealthy, cheap, and you get a great work out. Get the most stable kayak you can, a sit on top is better for beach launching but I like a cockpit for inshore. I prefer catching schoolies in my kayak to catching keepers in a boat, and a big fish that gives you a Nantucket sleigh ride is an incredible thrill. Like the previous poster said, paddling into a large feeding school of blues or stripers is an incredible experience, especially if there are seals or whales around.

You don't really need a special rack. Plain cross rails work fine. I use my Rola safari rack with some pool noodles to protect the boat and rack and it works great.

I've caught some big fish but the best one was the 20" schoolie my 3 1/2 year old daughter caught last week sitting on my lap in the kayak.

i used to use the pool noodle mount when i would have to carry two for a few bucks it works great.. and as much fun as yak fishing is you still always have to remember safety first... and remember its a floating piece of plastic so know your limits
