The post contains detailed information about places you can legally ride in the North East. If you have information about a destination not listed here, please email the details to dsnoyes@metrocast.net.

Please include the following if available:

Also, if you've ridden at any of these places and want to share pics or information of your ride let me know (PM) and we'll get a link in this post to your pictures!

* Asterik next to the area heading means there have been L.O.S.T. rides at this location.

?? Next to the area heading means I just found this info by surfing the net and we need to investigate!

Moose River Recreation Area ??
Adirondak Mountains, NY

Obtained in 1963, the 50,000 acre parcel is now open to the public for a variety of recreational activities. This block of land is the largest remote parcel among the Adirondacks readily accessible by motor vehicle. Purchased from the Gould Paper Company, past logging activity and road development have had a great influence on both the natural resources of the area and use by the general public.

Class VI Roads in NH
Class VI Roads are defined by New Hampshire Statute 229:5 VII as “…all other existing public ways, and…include all highways discontinued as open highways and made subject to gates and bars…and all highways which have not been maintained and repaired by the town in suitable condition for travel thereon for 5 successive years or more.”

“The term “gates and bars” was not and is not, statutorily defined.” And “…anecdotal evidence suggests, namely that “subject to gates and bars” historically referred, and still does refer, to an owner’s right to enclose premises for his/her own benefit—primarily to restrain livestock. The owner has the right to require passersby to open and reclose the gate or bars, as a condition of exercising the public right to travel on the highway.”
