I could really use all of your help. I am planning on leaving Friday Afternoon to our nations capital and don't have a clue where to stay. I plan on Fri night and Sat night stay. Can anyone recommend a nice hotel and maybe give me some suggestions as to the priority of sites/places to see in that time? For ex., I definitely want to pay my respects to the Vietnam Memorial Wall. Important things llike that and the Smithsonian maybe. Thanks all. |

aw - you hit the jackpot here Edgar! Dan and I went last Spring - and I got ALL kinds of info for you! HOTELS As for lodging - it depends what you wanna pay and if you wanna be in the middle of DC or stay just outside in VA. Marriott is headquartered in Bethesda - so as you can imagine - they have like 100 hotels to choose from! Click here: https://marriott.com/default.mi Search for Washington D.C., Arlington, VA and Bethesda, MD. I've listed the cities in order of distance. But they all have hotels that either have nearby access to the metro (subway) or a shuttle to the station. The Residence Inn Arlington/Pentagon City is nice and the metro is .2 of a mile (walking distance). http://marriott.com/property/propertypa ... Code=WASPT The Courtyard Washington Northwest is on the outskirts of downtown - .3 of a mile from a metro station. http://marriott.com/property/propertypa ... Code=WASPT The Residence Inn Washington DC/Vermont Ave is in town - metro right there and not a bad price at $119. http://marriott.com/property/propertypa ... Code=WASDC Keep in mind that all these places will charge you a daily parking rate AT the hotel. We paid $8 a day...we were quite suprised by that - but soon discovered all hotels do it. Your best bet is to arrive at the hotel, park the car and take the metro EVERYWHERE! THE METRO DC's subway system is awesome! Easy to navigate and not bad prices. You can get an unlimited day pass for $6.50 or a limited 1 week pass for $22.00 or an unlimited 1 week pass for $32.50 (the unlimited are the way to go). You can get combo rail/bus passes - but we found the rail pass worked great for us. Click here for pass info: http://www.wmata.com/riding/passes.cfm#Metrorail SITES TO SEE: Click here for the tourism web page. Definitely agree about the Vietnam Vet Memorial. And in the same area is the Korean War Memorial, Lincoln Monument and a short walk to the Washington Monument (you can go to the top of it - but you have to get tickets at the crack of dawn cuz they only give so many per day). We did a trolley tour at night and it was kinda neat - but you didn't get a lot of time at each point of interest. But then again - it might be great for you cuz you don't have a lot of time! It was called Old Town Trolley Tours and it was excellent at night! They also offer a hop on hop off ticket so you can stay as long as you want at each place. http://shophta.com/acb/stores/15/produc ... ID=52&kc=y Well - I think that's enuf info for a 2 day trip! If you have any questions - gimme a holla! Or IM me on AIM (my screen name is Noyesds). Have fun! Sue |

It sounds like Sue should be the NE LOST Travel agent, at least for the DC area. Enjoy your trip. It sounds like you have a good plan and you will definitely have a hard time seeing everything. There is so much to see there but, it's a good trip. HAVE A GREAT THANKSGIVING. |
