So myself and a few other LI KJ went to get our beach permit the other day it only $65. We want to get a beach run together I know some of you upstate NY guys ask me about wheelin the beach. Is anyone still down. The permit is good for a year and sales for the permit end in April. It allows you to fish aka wheel at many beaches. I was thinking of going to the Montaulk Light house it's a 2 hour ride from the city but a nice drive. Maybe stay over night out their. It's cheap to stay out their in the winter. If it's to far we can go to a closer beach. What do you guys think?

I'd like to check it out. Montauk is really low key in the winter especially. There's about 3 beaches you can fish on I think.

Hah, yeah, I love Montauk, I go out there every year.. I wanted to buy the East Hampton one for like 350$, but thats a little pricey. Im definitely down to make a trip, maybe we can get other NYC Jeeps to get the permit too, (we have to convince them it's amazing to have, lol). You guys got my number, so anytime you want to do anything, even last minute, hit me up.

Oh, and I know I brought this up already, but to fish we need the new SaltwaterMariners license, only ten bucks. I'm going to get it anyway, even if we're not fishing, I don't like unnecessary fines.

The Easthampton Town permit is costly, and really only allows access to one or two beaches. At least the Suffolk permit gets you on 6 beaches. And Smith Point has a few miles to wheel on, both in the dunes and on the beachfront. I know that in the past the permit for non residents was close to $200 for the year. But I have not inquired about non-resident permits, or if they are still being sold. So, if you go enough I guess you can make it worth it, but it is still very costly. I think BennyMigs was saying that you can get a day pass for non-residents, but again I am unsure of what the cost is.
I bought the saltwater fishing permit at the beginning of the year, you can get it from the NYDEC website, and it's only 10 bucks. Plus if you do really fish, you need it anyways. I will hit you up the next time I'm headed out there, usually on a whim!

Hi Benny. Montauk is really nice but it is about a 5 hour drive for me. I would love to but just too far I think.

Thanks for the invite though.

Hey Benny. What dates are we thinking for this event? I would think we want to get out there before May when the season starts to pick up. Any thoughts of places to stay while we are out that way?
I went out last year and hiked around the point in February and it was bitter cold. But so cool to see the seals by the haulout site. I would think the access to the beaches out there would be open due to the fishermen, but perhaps we should try and call before we set a date Just In Case! Don't wanna get shutdown again from a beach run. Shagwong for dinner!
Jeff

Well in March I can do the 14-15 or 21-22 those are Sunday and Mondays. I work Saturdays and can not get off but can stay over night on Saturday to Sunday. I like the Mantaulk Manor. Till the end of march they are doing stay 4 night get two free but thats to long for me to stay. I know in April they do stay 2 nights get one free. The only Sunday I can not do in April is the 11th. They also have cabin you can rent I'll look in to it.

I've only got weekends till early May. I might be able to get a weekday if I plan accordingly for a day trip. After May 7th I should have more free time when the current feature I am
working on wraps up. It sucks being a weekend warrior again!

Im down for a monday 12th run. Took a quick ride into democrat point yesterday and saw lots of jeeps on the sand. This monday im going to see if Gilgo and the Thumb are open. What ever other beaches we decide to go we have to call the park and find out if its open because i heard that some may be closed due to erosion.

LI_KF, infernicus, just a heads up to you guys. The 4x4 entrance is closed where we went the first time. For now that entrance is closed. If you want to head to the beach the 4x4 access is now for the time being on the east end of parking field 2.

If you guys ever head out to 4x4 or even just to fish shot me a PM.

you got the 4x4 permit?

Believe it or not but they say that the best tire for the beach is street tires. Tires with aggressive thread patterns if your not careful will dig you deep faster.

Guys if you plan on heading out on Monday make sure you have what is needed. A cheap fishing role saw a few at costco and walmart, a wood board for your jack, a strap or chain (i have 2 straps so i can spot someone if you dont have one), a toilet (a bucket with a garbage bag), and a shovel (also have 2).

Heck if the weather is nice i may stay and fish and make the afternoon or morning of that when you guys leave.

oh great thanks man... i sent the guy a message... now i just need some tow hooks for the fornt and i'll be good as gold... as far as tires i got the Kumho SATKL61's and they are rated really well in the sand... it's a semi aggressive AT tire... plus i went with the 255 for the wider and since its a 70 side wall i can deflate pretty good.. not too much cause I didnt do bead locks, but it should give me a nice wide footprint... my question is, with no hitch or tow hooks if i did get stuck is there anywhere i could attach the strap without damaging the truck

cant really tell, i would have to take a look under your KK to see if there are any strong points to attach something. worst comes to worse you and always get 2 hooks, one for the front and back until you find something better.

By the way, i think the cut off date for the permit is the last day of April, if you get all your stuff together we can take a quick run out on friday maybe at 12esh
