Went four wheeling with a few friends again, VERY VERY VERY rocky. Somehow my passenger front tire either got a nail in it, or has a slow leak somewhere, because i was losing air. Just an indash view of the trail. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivaxWnGI19U Dared to try this steep downhill. Would not have made it without a great spotter. Apparently my rear driver tire was like 2 feet in the air at one point. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcSCe4KVRlk Just a downhill very rocky trail. Listen to the TJ owner speak at the 1:30 mark http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7AZ4wTJO50 TJ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5G4E3X-799c And I aired the front down to 19psi and the back to 18ps. What is the best offroading psi and correct onroad psi for 245/75/16s? |

Wow! Very impressed. I know exactly where the hill is in that 2nd clip and the first time I was there none of us tried it and we all used the go around. The video do not do it justice as to how steep it really it is and how it's also off camber. I thought for certain anyone who tried to go down or up it would slide into the dirt wall on the side or skid into the large rock at the bottom. Nice job. |

Yeah not going to lie I was shaky but I was going to try everything I felt I could handle today. I feel like the go around was pretty tricky, even for mine which is a little higher than yours. Overall it was a blast, really got to know some higher limitations of my rig |

Nice vides man. That TJ guy sounded like he was amazed on the KJ. Most of them say that when they see us do the same thing they do. |

There are many debates in tire peasure for on and offroad. My max tire PSI is 44 but i run at 40. I run them at 40 because i get better fuel mileage and i noticed they wear better but everyone has their own opinion on tires and the correct PSI for them. Lowering your psi when offroading gives the tire more footing and allows the tire to mold around a rock when crawling over it. With a fully inflated tire crawling over rocks you would probably end up blowing the tire or case some type of damage. If you look at the second video you posted and pay attention to your left rear tire from 2:16 to 2:20s minutes you'll notice your tire molding to the rocks shape. Now if you had your normal onroad PSI and needed to stop with the front tire (all that weight from the engine...) on that rock, it may not do anything, until one day.... Keep on jeepen it dude!

Vranes - regarding the go around section if I didn't have full skids I wouldn't have been able to do it. I have the skid row engine and transmission skid and on those trails (and others) they are worth their weight in gold. Regarding your question about tire pressure some people say go as low as you can without risking the tire coming off the rim and/or risking cracking the rim or a rock at the sidewall - an obvious risk with lower tire pressure. Sadly - I leave the front a little higher just so I don't loose too much ground clearance. Depending on the trails I'll go 25 - 20 in the front and 18 - 22 in the back. When I'm on the beach I've gone as low as 13 in the rear and 18 in the front. VMKJCRD made a good point. I would bet that if you had your tire pressure up near 25 or more you would have been sliding down that rock slab rather than having the ability to brake and control your steering. Again, nice job overall. Oh, and I'd highly recommend getting at least a transmission skid if you're going to continue running trails like that. My order in getting the skids was engine, transmission, T-case and gas tank. Oddly enough I think my T-case skid only has a few dings and has collected lots of mud. My logic for getting the skids was - pay a bit now or pay a lot later. |

Looks like a fun trail. I especially liked the video on your Youtube of yhe Defender going through the iced mudhole. It some coaxing to get him through that! The Libby looks like it performed just as good as any of the other rigs you were with. Good stuff Vranes. Keep em coming, please! And I wanna get out on some of those trails with ya'll. |

So Steve and I headed up to Mahwah today to check it out. Couldnt make it into the woods, the snow made it so tricky that we couldnt even get up the main hill. Although we did encounter a nice light blue lib on the way down on the highway with moabs and MTRs, had a dark gray grill fascia, looked sweet. Also saw 2 big Fords with lifts, swampers and one had a body lift as well. |
