Jeep Dawg - What are the odds we can get a trail ride to Twin Arch this weekend? I have some friends that are interested in heading out for some trails. The Nepaug St. Park is a bit of a hike for everyone so I wanted to see #1 - is it OK in general to go up there and is it safe (any hunting?)

I haven't been up there in over a year (maybe two) so I'd also want to know how clear - or unclear the trails are and also how much snow might be on the trails? I would be with two, possible three other people. A Defender90 on 33's with a winch. A '98 Wrangler on 30's with a winch and a stock Land Rover LR2. I can vouch for all of them in regards to respecting the land and the boundaries. If Twin Arch is not an option this weekend let me know and I'll post a link letting you guys know where our back up option will be.

MAN Scooby,
I been planning a TA run with Stever71 but never happens because something comes up with me. I would love to go. TA is only 10 mins from my house. I really need to get stuff done around my house this weekend. I been pushing it off for months now. My wife keeps giving me that :grim: look ......what time are you planning to go? I have not been up there for a few months so I really do not know how it is up there. The owner stoped paying taxes on the land so he no longer owns it but people are still going up there.
Right now we have about 3" left from our last storm. There should be alot of ice up there. Saturday is a warm up day with rain/ice/snow so it should be a FUN RUN.
The stock LR2 might have some issues. just take it slow.
I will PM you my cell. It depends how much i get done saturday, i might go.

Dude! Pull your sh... stuff together and get over there. At this point the earliest we'd get there is around 12:30 but more likely it'll be 1. The LR2 is actually pretty similar in ground clearance to our KJs (sadly.) His biggest issue is articulation but that is made up for with a very good tractions control and 4-wheel drive system (minus the 4-Lo transfer case.) Anyway, if he can't keep up he'll jump in with some else. He's actually got a ATV, not sure if those are allowed back there but he'd have to bring it on a trailer and I don't think there's any place to park one of those.

So back to the point. Get your stuff done Fri night and Sat AM and meet us over there in the afternoon. The guy in the D90 will be meeting us up there sometime between 2 and 3 so we'll be coming back to the trail head to meet up with him. The last time I was up there he was in a VW Tourege and we bumped into your cousin.

Anyway, send me a PM if you want and I'll give you my info.

Can you tell me anything about the entrance? Where I entered last time it was a pretty steep hill with a turn to the left at the bottom. If that's all iced up I don't want to crash into the ditch or anything like that. Ice is fun going uphill but downright scary going downhill.

As far as I know, there are a few traill heads now. the STEEP F-er is STEEPER! go a few feet past it and there is a str8 line to the hill going up into the thrail upeer play area. ATV are always there. If he brings a trailer he can pull it to the top. I see people do it all the time. Just dont leave it at the bottom in the wide open eyes. I will try to get things done for tomorrow but its looking I got a whole day of hard work. If I can get away for a lil bit, I will bump into you up top.

Vranes - yes we're making the trip. I'm meeting some of my friends at the Palisades Mall at 11:30 tomorrow in front of Best Buy and then we're heading up to the trail. I have a Blue KJ with fog lights mounted on the bumper. I'm not sure of the color of the other two rigs but it'll be a '98 Wrangler (I think black) and a Land Rover LR2 (I think it's white.) I'll PM you my cell number so you can meet up.

Jeep Dawg - hope to see ya there!

For anyone else looking to meet up, if you can get to the mall by 11:30 flag us down otherwise hopefully we'll see you at Twin Arch. We'll be up there 'till the light starts to fade.

Nice pictures. Those are the usal TA pictures. They seem never to change with Jeeps getting stuck.i cant wait to see the last few of the night. I was happy we did not roll that TJ lastnight. That was so freaking close!

Next time I will have more time to play and show up early. I ran out of the house so fast yesterday, I forgot my super Nikon cam.
Who shot the videos?
when we hit the main road, I took off and for about 5 miles all I saw and heard was mud being flung all over. I had a car behind me and after a while I noticed he was backing off :ROTFL:

Looks like you guys had a blast!
What type of SUV was recovering you Andrew? That land rover looked really good and seems like you have lots of good pictures for Jeep Dawgs wbsite.
If i were you, i would invest in a snatch strap not a tow strap. Your frame and drivetrain will thank you for it. I works like a rubber band, instead of jerking the jeep its snatchs it. I got one off ebay and i cant wait to use it out on the beach this year, it came in a really nice carrying bag and for 40 bucks you cant go wrong. Ill post a picture if anyone is invested.

Well from the front the Land Rover(LR2) was gonna pull me out, but we scrapped that idea. Then the other KJ tried with the strap you are talking about and no go. Had to hook the winch up to my rear hook and pull me out.

Dang, that must have been some sticky stuff you got in.
Arent you glad you took the mud flaps off? They would have ended up in your truck at the end of that trail run.

Yes definitely looks a little cooler too, more simple. My license plate holder ended up in the mud though.

Looks like I missed a good run this time. Wait until the spring and everyone will be stuck and hopefully not all at the same time like almost happened to us the last time there.

We need to schedule a spring run there and just bring a bunch of hot dogs. I have a portable grill. I got MRE's but they are a last resort. We could also do a 909 run some day.

Brian, how are you and Andrea and Devin doing?

I showed up at the last moment for this run and it was fun and muddy.

We are doing good Dave. How are you and Ann doing? It has been a while since we last spoke. Pretty busy winter so far.
