I just got this bad boy and it's beefy! So who wants to help me install it and more importantly, what color should I paint it? ![]() L] |

Sweeeet man! I wanted to get a diff cover, but waited for more important things, like 200$ for a new CV, haha.. I was thinking of painting mine when I changed my fluids last week. Yeah, how about Monday when we change my CV? lol. |

Peter- I am thinking of painting it red with black like you said. Originally I was thinking of doing it grey to match the flares, and red skull. But, now I think that's out. Hope to paint it up this weekend. Then change the fluid out. Its seems like a big mess to do? I thought we have a Dana 30a in the front and hr d30 cover wouldn't work. Plus I have read its a pain in the butt to drop the front diff cover as well. You gotta pull the front diff bracket as well as the LCA and then you need an alignment again. Plus like you said it would be covered by the skid anyways. I will snap some pics when I get the rear done. |

forgot to add the a on the 30a. Jeff the 30a is an aluminum version of the Dana 30 with a longer pinion shaft. Unfortunately the light weight aluminum construction makes it weaker than the D30. The CRDs have a different front cradle that lowers and leftward shifts the differential to provide more clearance for the diesel engine. It's really not that messy at all. I just made a big mess when I was changing my fluid because I didn't have the pump at the time of fill up so I decided to use a funnel.

I see I see. So, are you able to remove your front diff cover on the CRD? I have never looked under your jeep, so I am not sure. Since I have had all these front diff problems recently, I have been in that area quite a bit on my KJ. When I was trying to figure out if I had a leak on the cover seal or if the pinion seal was leaking I was looking into taking the cover off, and putting on a fresh coat of RTV to rule out a leak in the RTV. But I quickly saw what a pain in the it would be. One of these days I wanna crawl under there and see what it's all about! |
