We were very lucky to only have a broken gate and lost power for only 13 hours. Our house is being used by both of our families and a bunch of friends for hot showers and charging all of their cell phones and Laptops.

I'm in Sands Point. We are still out of power. We have a 7500 W generator going, but we are down to 10 gallons of gas. A 75' oak tree that's about 4' across the base fell across our pool, cracking the concrete and pavers and ripping the safety cover. We had another tree crush our iron fence at the property line. And another 2 trees go down across the driveway. Luckily, we are high enough that we had no flooding at all. Getting into my office in Brooklyn is a nightmare and we cancelled all meetings in Manhattan until Monday. My CRD has 3/4 of a tank and at least I have a longer range than the gassers. Hopefully i can find a station with some fuel in the next day or so.

6 of these laid on the ground. Its amazing how quick 3 chains working in sinfonye can clear a road :grim:

Still have power, cable, and phone. all vehicles we fueled up before the storm and stacked up on cigs, coffee, and TP. (Always do that before big storms)

Seriously now. That was a very intense storm we had. I went outside for a few moments to record the wind blowing on the trees and dang.. It was some pretty insane moments watching those trees being blowing around like sticks...

Does anyone know of a program for windows vista that can rotate and video not an image but the entire video? I got a vid of this guy driving out of his house with at least 4 feet of water and would like to post it.

Glad to hear you guys and your families are ok. NY and NJ had it a lot worse than we did in Philly. The suburbs lost power because of falling trees, but flooding wasn't too bad and both Center City and West Philly seemed to come through without a lot of physical damage (compared to what was on TV from NY and NJ). We never lost power here in West Philly. Wow, what a storm, though.

I was apparently in the sweet part of the storm. Had something hit my house, but next day I didn't find anything. Guess I my home was just one of many things it hit.

I been putting off going out, because of all the reports of down trees, but I'm running out tea.

Good to hear everyone faired well in the storm. In Astoria we never lost power, just high winds and a few large trees down on powerlines and homes. Hope to see some of ya'll soon when this gas shortage ends! Wishing I had a CRD as usual! :JEEPIN:

Last time I made out with Sandy, she was already a little tipsy. Finished off a bottle of wine, and it was smooth sailing after that! 8)

I'm sure most of us are dealing with the gas crisis right about now. two resources to help locate some fuel.

My house was fine, lost power and cable, but got it back a few days ago. Now, I'm skipping class to conserve gas. I wish I had a CRD, diesel is pretty easy to find here and they don't have lines lol.

I did however ride out the storm at my Pop and Uncle's house. We had our boats there and didn't want anything to happen to them. They made out fine, but we had 8ft of water in the yard. It was 6 inches away from being in the house. Sad thing is, his property is also about a foot higher than the street. Foundation in the house is badly cracked, and insurance and FEMA might condemn the house. As of now my uncle is cleaning everything(throwing everything in the cellar and garage out, including his C3 Corvette :( ). I've been helping out, but the weekend was shot for me. I ended up putting in 35.5 hours in just 3 and a half days. Sad thing is I've seen the same people every day this weekend since they had nowhere else to go.

I have pictures on my Facebook, so when I get around to it I'll post them up in here.

Our company volunteered our services along with a box truck full of 2x4s, traps, plywood, enough nails to build a house, MREs, sandwiches, fruits, and enough water to fill a swimming pool.

We went down to Far Rockaway and woow, if you want to see devastation take a ride on short front pkwy. They haven't had power since Sandy came into town and it seems like they wont for a while. There were construction light towers on every block and there were also people trying to charge their phones on them because they can also act as generators. As we were driving down my partner noticed cars half parked on the road and half on the sidewalk. Right away I told him it was when the car was fluting around.

here are some pictures i took:

I saw that van on top of the car on the news the other day! and yea its incredible, everything is cleared up in the middle of the island and once you go south you see everything is all messed up. I feel so bad for these people.

Well I haven't had any internet or anything since sandy hit. I live in Oceanside, almost lost all 7 cars, and just saved my new jeep in time. Luckly for me, my house is at a high elevation so the water never got in my house. I have a canal 6 houses away from me, never flooded in over 40 years but this time it did. Lost power for 11 days but its back, came on late friday.
I work in Farmingdale selling electrical supplies, we had generators powering us up b/c we were the ones selling all the 10/4 so cord and all the generator L14-30 plugs. I've never ever seen it so busy but I will say this: People say NY is all @$#%s and where all out for ourselves, this time everybody came together to help each other out. I had nothing at my house, electric, generators or anything but everybody offered me a home.... With all ups and downs, everybody gets together and works as a team..... Hopefully everybody else is all good, i've seen and heard tons of stories. We had a shark head and tail in 711 parking lot in Oceanside!

Me and the guys got sent to Broad Channel to help someone rip their walls off and woow they had atleast 7' of water in their area. Board channel is a small island between Howard Beach and Rockaway for the people who dont know. Here are some pictures

Image

Image
made this picture bigger to show the water mark on that time capsule looking thing. If you can't see it, its chest high to the guy on the right. The guys house is 3' off the side walk so you can imagine more or less how much water they had..

Image
all those vehicles got flooded and they just keep on going like this down the road

Image
Boat in the left hand lane..

Image

Image
more flooded vehicles..

Image
The owner of the house on the left got 7 free boats thanks for Sandy

Image
This is what most of the blocks looked like
