Yea it was a last minute thing for me. I stayed in the isla for work and and actually got off at a good time to pass by the parks HQ.
Its only open on weekdays till 5 PM and the permit office closes at 4:45Pm. Closed weekends which sucks.
Yeah, sucks that the place is only open weekdays, makes it a little hard for those that work normal hours. Luckily I am off for the next few weeks and I was going to see if anyone else was around and wanted to get theirs. I already bought the Marine/FW fishing permit from the DEC, and I also picked up a permit for Caumsett for fishing (since some of the other venues may not open, thought I'd try my luck on the north shore a little more this season).
Also got down to Smith Point and scored their first pass for the season!
What sucks about the county beaches is the outer beach at SP is still really screwed up from the washovers during Sandy, and Cupsouge also had washovers and remains closed till further notice. You have to sign a waiver stating that you know about the conditions and the high possibility of limited or no access to the outer beach or Cupsouge and that no refund will be offered. Napeague and Montauk are still open though. And we still have the plovers to deal with too!
Hope they can open some of the beaches before the season closes...
