Let me know if this idea is a junker or not but I think we should get a list going of all the trail runs everyone is interested in and then schedule them out in a calendar for 2009. I'd like to get the NorCal gang cranked up and I'd like to meet more of you guys and gals out on the trails. I know schedules are kind of hard to plan out really far in advance but I figure if we mark them down early we can at least give everyone time to try and make it. Either way let me know if this will work for everyone or if it doesn't work, toss out some ideas to generate activity in the NorCal section.

So after looking around and doing some of these, here are the trails that sound good to me and they are all rated from 4 to 6 on a scale from 1 to 10:

1. Slick Rock
2. Strawberry Pass
3. Deer Valley
4. Steve's Loop (Reno area)
5. Hunter Lake (Reno area)
6. Eagle Lake
7. Corral Hollow
7. Pardoe's
8. Snake Lake
9. Signal Peak

Which ones sound good to you, add ones you want to do and we can go from there. Also, if there are any Jeep or off road shows that we could meet up at, toss those out here too.

Again, if this idea sucks, say so.

I think it's a good idea. Unfortunately, I don't really have any other trails to add that are probably challenging enough.

It'd be cool to do a meet or something, trailride then camping.

It's a jeep thing, my levels of perception are sufficient to ascertain your implication

Anyone else have some input?

You're definatly going in the right direction as the area leader. I think all of these trails are totally kool. I've run several of them.
You have pretty much a summers load if you do them all.

A couple you could add are in the Tahoe area, that are KJ friendly. (you could do 2-3 of these in a day) I can send a map.
- Blackwood canyon above Meeks Bay
- Ellis peak/Ellis Lake - same area
- Buck Lake - just to the north of the Rubicon trail staging area by Miller Lake.
- The Rubicon Trail obeservation point just above Cadillac hill. Then backtrack.

I'm hoping to do the Deer Valley and Slickrock sometime in 09.

So my best suggestion would be to google search the trails I have suggested and see which ones are in locations and look like fun and let me know and add trails to the list like MKJeepers did.

The more narrowed down we can get it the better.

My absolute must try trail is Deer Valley, other than that, Strawberry and Slick Rock were awesome. Rubicon to CH and back sounds good and Barrett Lake might be another one to add to the list too.

Put down the ones you wanna run either off my list or off your own and we'll mash em together.

What kind of frequency do you all want to run trails at? I mean, a lot of these trails have snow until June sometimes so that would really leave us 5 or 6 months of season. I say one trail every 4-6 weeks. Too much too little?

That's why this will be for 2009.

But the Hills Angels are doing another run on Hunter Lake Trail for a final time this year on Oct. 25th if you wanna go Neal or anyone for that matter, even though I am not sure the trail is worth the drive into Reno for everyone in CA.

No this trail run is just for fun only. Not sure if we are all meeting up before hand or not, but the plan seems to be that everyone is going up the east side this time instead of the west side because the east side is the challenging side. I'll let you know if we are going to meet above Caughlin Ranch or if they just plan on a BBQ at the top or what exactly. Either way we can meet up and do the trail together if you wanted to go.

Back to the 2009 trail runs discussion.

So, any more input from anyone? I'd like to hit Strawberry again for sure. That one obstacle left me wanting to conquer it sans strap. I am probably going to wait until I get my LJ for Deer Valley though. I don't want to push the KJ's limits when I know I want to sell it relatively soon.

So my revised list would be

Definitely want to run:
1. Strawberry Pass
2. Pardoe

Want to run:
1. Signal Peak
2. Coral Hollow

Could run:
1. Snake Lake
2. Slick Rock

If there is a group going:
1. Deer Valley
2. Rubicon to Caddy Springs

You know we are in, any configuration you come up with is cool by us. And we can probably help you in the organization of some of the runs as well.

I'll try and get something down this December for our 2009 runs. Towards the end of the month. I'll hit you up for ideas and info, thanks Ken.

Niagara Rim and Eagle Peak also look kinda interesting. They're part of same area as slickrock and such. I'll have to google them for more info.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. I wonder if it was worthy of an annual LOST weekend outing for the club. You know kinda like Big Bear or something. You know to get alot of us out together. I will make it a point to run as early as possible in spring time to check it out. It says that there is a midway point to gather and camp at. This could be a good thing. We'll have to make sure that the kj's modified or stock could have really good times there. The way it reads to me it's all good 8)

I agree we need a yearly NorCal gathering like the Big Bear one.

Sound like a great idea Mike. The Tahoe area has alot of trails of all degrees of difficulty - plus a nice town to hang out at.
Where is this trail located. It says its near the 89 and 50 intersection in So. Lake Tahoe.

In the video it says minutes from the Y intersection of 89 and 50, which is here (the actual intersection has Tahoe Valley written right over it):
http://maps.google.com/maps?client=safa ... 1&ct=image
I've been to sawmill pond which is, like the guy said, minutes from that intersection. Never knew that Twin Peaks was right there though. Trail looks tough but there are bypasses on all the obstacles I guess.

As for the trail, some local guy's videos:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=oKS-GMMXMTo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tdzby-sl ... twin+peaks
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0I-O6in ... twin+peaks

And info on the trailhead is here:

http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/ltbmu/recreatio ... eaks.shtml

If we were to get serious and expect a nice group or turnout, then there is camping galore, hotels galore, entertainment galore and most importantly, more trails that you can shake a stick at.

Some of the trails are a decent drive to get to, but nothing that couldn't be done in less than a full day including trail time. How far are the trails in Big Bear and Ouray from lodging that everyone is staying at? I mean, are the trails like 5-10 minutes away or closer to an hour? If they are closer to an hour, we could do some good ones.

the Big Bear trails are only 5 minutes or so away, Ouray about 2 to 20 minutes.
Maybe put out a post and see what kind of intrest there is. I would think late June or early July, depending on the snow melt.

Well, for 2009 I think there might be too many scheduling conflicts with all the 09 LOST events already planned to get a really good showing for any NorCal event similar to Big Bear or Ouray. We could do a mini LOST Tahoe get together and do it in late June or early July and make it a model for what we could build upon for 2010 though. Make it a 3 day event and see which trails would be best to try and fit in for those who want to push the limits and those who want to take it easy. Maybe I am getting ahead of myself though...
