Post subject:  run the 4WD once a month in San Jose

Ok so I am new to 4WD drive jeeps.

I have heard, that the 4wd needs to be used once a month.
I also you can use the 4wd on dry paved roads...

So where would you go in or near San Jose to get into conditions where you can use the 4wd for a few minutes.

I know this may sound stupid or silly, but this is what I am looking for.

I am not looking for trails just yet, but just a dirt road that is easy to get to. or some lot of dirt I guess.

Any help would be great.

2008 KK Limited.
with silly 18 rims from the factory...
7.8 ground clearance.

well if you run it on pavement, just find a straight section of road and run it. just don't try and turn

Hollister Hills isn't too far from Santa Clara. Stay on the blue trails and they're pretty much just flat dirt roads. (but you'll want to do the cooler stuff real quick!)

Thank for the feeed back..

Good to know driving in a straight line is ok with the 4WD engaged.
I can do that easy here where i live...

I want to go to Hollister bad. It is about 1.5 hours away.
That is not that bad for a day trip...

Yes I have lots to learn once I get to the trails.
But that will be a while....

We got this jeep for a few reasons, it having 4WD was a plus, but not needed. I am now trying to work on getting it off road slowly...

I still need to add in Skip plats, and tow hooks. so all trails will be lvl 1 to 3

yeah, just look at me... all I wanted was a 2.0 to 2.5 lift and you see how far that line of thinking lasted
