My wife and I are planning a vacation Thanksgiving week to the South Lake Tahoe area, around Stateline, NV. I am a southern boy, and have seen snow enough times to count on one hand. Can anyone give me an idea of what to expect, and maybe make some suggestions on the locale? (Also considering Breckenridge, CO and Eden, UT) Neither of us have ever skied, so we're not really going for that specifically. Any advice/ info is appreciated!

I am not from Tahoe, but vacationed there last September. There is a bunch of casinos right on the NV side of Stateline, if you’re into that. As for the CA side, it is a small European type village; lots of shops and restaurants. There is a gondola that runs right down to the middle of the village and I would suggest that you take a ride up (even if you are not skiing) to get an amazing view of the Lake and snowy peaks. If it's not too cold I recommend a dinner/drinks cruise out to Emerald Bay, it cost around $50 per person and turned out to be really fun. There should not be much snow around Thanksgiving, but you do run the chance of hitting a storm. My girlfriend and I loved it out there and even considered moving to the Tahoe area!

Cool, thanks North End. Definitely will check out the Emerald Bay. I'm assuming that's the name of a ship?

Emerald Bay an area of the Lake where most of the boat tours go. It is designated as a natural national landmark and is probably the most photographed area of Lake Tahoe. I tried to include a picture below, but I am not sure if it will work

Here is a link to the different cruises available

MS Dixie 2 is the boat name, and yes it's worthwhile going on.
Also, you should stop by Virginia City, about 5o miles from Tahoe towards Reno. It kind of slows down in the winter, but there still will be a lot of things to see and do there. I assume you are flying so you will have to arrive at Reno anyway.

I've never seen so much snow in my life! We are staying at Ridge Sierra off of 207, about 7400 feet up. It's snowed about 4 feet since Saturday night when we got here. Renting a 4x4 Xterra was a good decision.

Went to Virginia City Monday (it was kinda dead, but interesting. The scenery driving back was incredible) and are going on the cruise tonight. It is going to be cold though - should be in the teens but clear - no more snow expected this week. Thanks for the tips!

Ya, I seem to recall telling you about the snow
No more snow til maybe this weekend.
Have fun on the cruise.
There are 5 bordellos here also, they call them ranches, about 5 miles from where I live.
You will go past them if you go back through VC on the way to the airport. :pepper:

Ya, I don't think the wife would be a fan of visiting the Bunny Ranch. (We noticed it driving in to Virginia City. They have a whole business park?)
