Just bought my first Jeep, 02 Liberty Sport, 4X4, pretty much stock, 8800 miles. I'm up in Tyler/Jacksonville area. Not planning on lifting or doing any big mods. (as far as my wife knows  ). We've only had it for a couple of weeks but on our dirt road to the house, we think it will hold up well. Look forward to hearing from anyone in the area.

How in the world did you find a 02 with 8800 miles? That has to be a record if that is correct. Welcome to the forum, you'll love the KJ.

Nope, really did have 8800 on it when I bought it on July 25 06. The truck was stored in a hanger in AngleFire NM and was used when the prev owner flew in. So I figure maby a trip or two to Taos and then the trip back to Dallas. So far no problems from it being stored so much, time will tell.
I actually found it on E-bay of all places, it was close enough for us to go check it out, otherwise, I would never have bid on it.
Sounds like most owners have few problems. I don't tend to get rid of trucks often, I just got rid of my 94 S10 Blazer at 199,950, we bought it "used" with 12,000 miles in Lubbock. I expect to get 200000 out of this one.

Welcome. Thats sounds like a really good deal considering it is the prelifted with so little miles. Do you happen to be in engineering? I'm going to school for Biomedical Engineering. If so there's a few questions I would like to ask you about the field.

Congrats on your purchase. Hopefully you'll get as much enjoyment out of your "new" KJ as most of us do!

Welcome to the Tx Jeepers BiomedEd. There is almost too much stuff to read on this forum. Great people though.

Howdy!

I know your initial posts were in August, but I'm also new to the jeep/KJ thing; got mine for a song on the last business day of 2006 here in Tyler (Mike Pile dealership).

Traded in a 1995 Buick Skylark, ex-family car prior to wofe getting a minivan, then became my daily driver.

I've wanted a Jeep for years, but wasn't "practical" until the old Buick started to fall apart. Wanted a Wrangler, I must admit, but needed 4 doors (yes, I drop 2 kids off at school before heading to the office) and the 4-door Unlimited was mucho $$$. I have to admit, I've fallen in love with the KJ now. Already added "stuff" and waiting to buy more "stuff." :D

I know it's only 4x2, but still do some low-key offroading locally. My wife just doesn't understand the attraction of it all, or the whole "jeep" thing, for that matter. She thought I was kidding when I told her about "the wave," although I must admit I haven't given or recieved waves too often...

How has yours worked out for you?

Dr Doug...

One great thing is that you can get a nice suspension kit for around $400 and some A/T tires. This will allow you to go ALOT more place in your Jeep that you couldn't before simply due to gound clearance. For example, you could pretty much go anywhere you wanted at Big Bend as long as you have the ground clearance in 2wd. A fron skid plate would definatly be something on the list.

I have been running Rusty's coil kit for 30k miles now with no problems and the ride quality is night and day over the stock shocks and springs.

Thanks for the advice.

I've actually cruised every forum on this site, it's taken me 1.5 months now to see most of it. Lots of ideas, including lifts, skids, etc. I've learned a lot about winching/recovery, and have put together a toolbox & offroad kit. Army/Navy store here in Tyler had some good little shovels etc. 8)

I'm going to try to convince my boss (read: "wife") to let me spend some $$$ on skids, rails, lift. Maybe BFG A/Ts for the next tires (maybe another trip to Home Depot & some "accidental" nails in the stock road tires....)

Of course, the last week or so has been spent trying to get the vomit smell out after my gradeschooler "christened" the back seat, floor, front seat back, seatbelts, etc. So far, so good. PetSmart has some good odor-type products. I think I actually got a whiff of "new KJ" smell again today (minus vomit). Life is good...
