Where are these places in relation to San Angelo? I am from the Northeast...I am not use to a state this big, every thing seems so far away.

Howdy and welcome to LOST.

yeah - one of the problems with a Texas club is that because of the distance it's hard to get people together.
I had to click on a map to find San Angelo and I've driven through there before -
you're about 200 miles from the Austin, San Antonio area - probably only about 100 miles from Mason.

another problem is that most of the land is private property so you need permission to ride.
are there any 4wd clubs on base? - Military bases tend to have extra land they don't get too upset about you driving on
(and some they get real upset about driving on so you need to check first).

Not to sure if there is a off road club on base. There are a lot of nice rigs on base that look like they go off roading...but I am not sure. I am only here for 4 more months then I head back home to the northeast. I ride with a club on cape cod and raceinfan or Pete with the northeast chapter of LOST rides with them as well.

What is the word on katemcy rocks? That is about 1 1/2 hours from me. Where is the off roading done exactly and is it open to the public. Also, do I need a permit to go off roading in TX? If you know of any organized runs I wouldn't mind tagging along if I could.

Well - any vacation time? - you're significantly closer to Moab now than you were in CapeCod - 1st week in April - figure a 1000 mile drive - day and a 1/2 each way - but neat trails (and you can take a slightly longer drive back - through Colorado)

I haven't been to Katemcy - Jason has - I think there's an entrance fee but that's about it.

found it
http://www.katemcyrocks.com/schedule.html

and general purpose offroad
