Just a rant / rave / praise . . . but my long freaking trailer hitch (for those that saw it at the Install Party in Waco) has saved my butt, literally, twice in the last 2 months. There's no telling what the rear end of my Jeep would look like right now if my hitch didn't extend past my Spare as far as it does.

Several weeks back I was rear ended by a Prelude as I was trying to drive out of an Apartment complex. Apparently the Gate was gonna close on her car or something, so she decided to rear end me instead . . . as if her car was gonna make my jeep move? Anyhow, her front bumper was soo messed up anyhow, I couldn't even tell where she hit it... except for the nice mark on the license plate.

Yesterday, I had big freaking Tahoe rear end me at a Red light . . . when a little high school girl jumps out and apologizes. Now that Tahoe did push me a bit. But luckily my hitch caught her square on the steel bumper (half on the license plate,
half on bumper). So it put a nice round mark there, but luckily protected my spare tire mount from her brush guard.

Other than convenience, that's just another reason I leave my Ball locked in my Reciever at ALL times :-)

Hehe . . . so it might not be very good for too much offroading (ie. declining narrow places) but that sucker has saved me more than once!

<really dumb sounding voice on>" . . . . uhhhhhhh . . . hmmmm . . . what did I hit?"<really dumb sounding voice off>

Man I wish I had a hitch. I got rear ended last week and my spare got hit and bent my rear hatch. The bumper is bent too. Didn't look too bad but is gonna cost quite a bit of money to fix. I'm just happy my hatch still opens and closes. The Infinity that hit me was really screwed up hood buckled and radiator destroyed. Luckily for him it wasnt his fault. A civic hit him and the lucky guy in the back with a dodge ram gets to fix all our cars. The first thing I said when I got out of the car was I just bought this effin thing. Which I did I've had it just over a month. Makes me real sad that shes already injured. Next thing I buy is a long hitch.

Sorry bout that stuff Padnah! From the sounds of it though, that Civic must have gotten ROCKED to transfer that much energy, SHEESH! And, if the Infinity had that much damage, then a hitch might have just put a 5 inch Hole in their front end and trapped them onto your Butt . . . or maybe not if your foot wasn't on the brake... tough call.

Good luck with the repairs, hope it looks good as New!

OK Brandon, we have to hook riverrat up. I got rearended by a drunk driver in an S10. Totally destroyed the S10, of course haveing my rear reinforced with 3/16" steel and a hitch helps.

Chemguy,

LOL, I just remembered your story about you having the Gas Can on the back as a Rear End Deterrent . . . hehehe

Yup, that sucker worked pretty well on the sober people. To a drunk guy, it just looked like a flask of vodka attached to a truck.

RaeRae: I'd have your Jeep looked at by a good shop. Even though it doesn't look damaged a hard hit on the hitch could damage it and/or the tweak the uniframe.

Yeah . . . you're right, but luckily neither hit I had was much more than a love tap. The first one was especially small, hardly felt the car, the second one nocked me, but I've had my Boat give me bigger jerks than that . . . and I've pulled the boat many times since then and no cause for fret!
