Just got an email from eddo saying the trail may not be closed but it may be some around/leading to this trail. Im not to sure what to do at this point, I may just run up there tomorrow depending on what moose wants to do. It would suck for you guys to come all the way down here and it not be open.

If you've got the time, but don't jeep too far alone in there...

We could try the "other" trail that Eddo started up. I'm willing to give it a go with a good spotter. Looked like it had some bypasses for the tough stuff...

ohh gosh, idk about that. He never used his rocker rails but he has more lift than me. The chance of body damage goes up with that trail. :?

Ill get back as soon as I can tomorrow to fill everyone in!

Are you still bringing your kj jasonk? Or are you riding along in the rubi? That rubi would eat up that part eddo tried with that front locker. Would be cool to have 3 libbys and a tj! 4 if VTNomad goes! Thats the most kjs Ive been on a run with!

Hey there guys...I've been following this discussion and am thinking of taking a vacation (from family that is) before school starts and thinking this could be it. Saturday August 5 is when I'd get to Slade, but before then I'd leave for Mammoth Cave National Park (right off I-65, b/w Cave City and Park City) on Thursday Aug 3 and spend a night there and hike/tour the Park Friday. Then later on drive to Daniel Boone National Forest and camp there Friday night so then we can wheel Saturday if it were possible with everyone. I'd then camp there Saturday night and maybe wheel again Sunday morning or head straight for home. Anyone got any thoughts on this?? Of course this is all hanging in the balance pending Jeepjeepsters investigation on if the narrows are open or not....time will tell...

Just FYI. I believe the closure point is well into the trail so you won't be able to see it by just driving by. Your best bet is to go into the ranger station and talk with people. Pull out a map and show them where you are looking at and also have them show you what is closed on the map.

Also, that area I first tried is Sterling Road off of Hwy 11. However according to the map it ends up meeting up to the same place on the narrow trail. I believe where they intercet is where the have placed the gate.

"The Arch Trail (same as the Narrows), as feared, will be closed. It is projected that the closure will be in effect by the end of June, 2006. The closure will be from Pot Hollow to Big Bend Road. The FS is currently taking inventory of the trails in the general area, and focusing on the Sand Lick watershed area. "

Its closed. I made it all the way to where its blocked off in the corolla. I got stuck once and my friend had to push me out, but its all good.

I went to the ranger station and the woman didnt have a clue about anything but sitting in her chair. She was of no help what so ever, she acted like she didnt know what a trail was?!?!

The frist trail we tried is still open but man does it look rough! Idk if my jeep could make it up that without getting beat up purty good. I walked up it to make sure they didnt close it off and it was good. BUT, it leads right back into where the narrows are so that wouldnt take enough time. I was hoping the ranger station could tell me something but they didnt.

Its all up to you moose. We could meet and try to find another trail and see what it was like. I got into one around the entrance of the narrows but it looked crazy. It was huge rocks and went straight down the side of a hill. Gosh I was so excited to get back to the narrows!

Eddo, do you know any possible trails we could try around there. I could get up early saturday morning and head out looking for stuff if you have any ideas.

I think we should re-group and try to find some legal trails. The stuff I highlighted on that map were "jeep trails" that made loops, but they could be on private lands. I don't think I want to go until we can find out what roads are lagal & open or not.

Sorry,

moose

By the way maybe somone should post something up in the Closed Trails section of the forum in case someone else was or might be thinking of visiting the area and unsure of what exactly is open and closed...just a thought...

There used to be a couple trails around Cave Run Lake that might be a good central point for you all to meet up at. I miss that area. No hills in VA Beach. :-( I have to do my daily krawling with my Nylint Rock Crawler (I love that thing).

OK, Lets meet Saturday at 11 in Slade (sorry, It's a 3 hour drive from Dayton - we could shoot for 10:30 if 11 makes too many people grumpy) JeepJeepster will be posting picts of Eddo going up the trail. It WILL be a SOB for the first 100 yards. After that we should all be OK. Please quote this post and add your name if you are going to be their.

Its abit rough guys, a stock rubicon should be ok, a stock libby with skids would drag a purty good lot. We will spot you as best to can and will do what we need to get you up it. After the first part it gets alittel bit better and you shouldnt have any body damage if we play it smart. Eddo went up it with mild trouble with no damage at all but he has the franken lift and a rear locker. His rocker rail never touched but Im sure they would on a stock libby.

Its rough, we will bring red-devils and winch as we need to. This is when I wish I had rocker rails!! Also, I will be taking my sway bar off after we get there, it may be best for this trail, its up to you all though.

It's looking less and less likely that I'm going to be able to make it. The Mrs. keeps reminding me of things I have to do, and I need to play catch up in my class. To top it all off, the skids and hooks still aren't here. UPS tried to deliver today, but no one was home. Any other time they would have left the package, but because I need it, they left me a note saying they would try again tomorrow.

So go ahead and rule me out. I'll let you know if this changes, but I really don't see it happening. I'll catch ya the next time around.

If you sign that piece of paper they will usually leave the package, they always do that to me. That or tear the yard all to heck b/c they cannot drive, like they did this morning when they brought one!!
