I was going to take pictures of the progress, but I swear, by the time I got the camera out, we were finished.

Start to finish:
1.) Remove front wheels and suspension
2.) Assemble strust assembly
3.) Install new assembly with conduit nuts (for clevis lift)
4.) Remove rear wheels, springs and shocks
5.) Replace w/ new springs and additional spring isolators, and shocks

Total Time: 2 hours 15 minutes

This project was identical to the link listed above so additional pics would be redundant.

Ron, thanks for the invite, but as you saw, Moose offered Eddo's services, and it just so happened that there were 4 of us ready on short notice.

Seriously, this was a painless install.

Here are some after photos. I found a stock '03 in a parking lot.

Look at the clearance differences (both are on 235/70R16s)

A couple other clearance shots

Final shot. The Jeep pitches forward a bit, but the driveway slopes too.

PS. Ron, I'm in the market for some 245/75s maybe Phils Auto & Tire in Carlisle Image (shameless plug) can find me some good meats?

Hey thanks Mitch, we'll take all the plugs we can get. Our mainline of tires are coopers but we can order, usually with next day delivery, about any kind you want. seems like the choice on this forum is BFG's but IMO they are a little pricey. Where did you get that pic of my workplace? Was it a driveby cellphone shooting or what?

The lift looks nice and I'll bet it seems to ride better. You guys done that job in record time didn't you? Did you use the heavier duty springs or medium? Still looks like the rear could be a little bit higher, but I dunno?

Great job by ALL who contributed, I just feel bad about not getting the chance to help, or aggrevate, wich ever way you look at it.   If you need tires we will give you the best price we can. You might be able to by them on the net for a dollar or two cheaper, but by the time you pay shipping, and mount and balance, your really not saving much. And keep in mind that we offer FREE yes I said FREE rotation and balancing when needed!

Good Job Guys!!!!!
Ron

Glad everything went well. :)

How many extra isolators did you use on the rear meh_kick? Also, how many conduit nuts did you use on the front? I used two nuts on the front and no isolators on the rear and it sits perfectly level. Ive got a set of isolators that I was thinking about adding on the rear, but I think ill leave it as is..

How do the stock tires look in person? They look purdy good from what I can tell in the pics.. My stock rims still have the stock tires and Ive not had them on since I lifted it alittle more. Ive been wondering how they would look.

You keeping those tires for livingston?

As far as tires go, I'm going to try to stick to tires at or below the $125 (each) range. They'll have to be some sort of AT with decent tread life and off-road-ability. Perhaps the Dayton Timberline AT, General Grabber AT2, Bridgestone Dueler Revos, or even those Cooper Discoverers.

I don't have any problem with the stock tires, they have about 15,000 miles left on them, and I'll probably still have them on for Livingston (one thing is that I know there will be no rubbing). I will eventually upgrade them to a taller and more aggressive AT, but again, the new ones will have to have good on road handling. If I find a set of extra wheels, I'd consider a set of MTs for the side.

Isolaters in the rear = 3 total (1 existing + 2 new each side, $11.10 each at local dealer).
Conduit nuts = 3 total (to hold place after cleavis lift, not necessary, but added security), there was about 3/16th clearance of the upper ball joint at full droop on the driver's side, and a little less than 1/8th on the passenger side.

(As far as the picture of Phil's, I found it on a Carlisle Business Community website after searching with Google.)

Two hours??? You guys are superhuman! I bet even the best 4x4 shop wouldn't match that.

Congrats on the Rusty's lift. That was my first choice of lift which, if I start wheeling more often, will be an eventual upgrade (after the rest of my armor, of course).

Your back end looks really high. My Daystar kit has an extra half-inch in the back, but it's not nearly as noticeable as yours. Did you install extra spring isolators bought because you expect the rear springs to sag a lot? Or do you want a more level rig for towing? Just trying to understand the process more.

Enjoy!

The goal for this install was for me not to be able to see over the roof of the Jeep anymore (its been a pet peeve of mine since I scuffed the roof forgetting there was no bottom to the basket on day 1). I was also tired of the corner of the lift glass poking me in the eye. So I was looking for the most space I could get from Rusty's lift. After reading Science_guy's write up, I decided to copy it.

I am happy with the clearance both front and rear, and don't mind the pitch forward. I do tow trailers frequently, so a level rig while towing is a bonus. I have read about the front of Rusty's kits sag but I don't expect much in the rear.

One other thing I noticed after this weekend, is how much bigger the Jeep looks from the outside. It appears not only taller, but wider and just plain beefy-er now that it's got some air under its belly. I didn't expect that difference.

Well Meh_kick, I've never owned the timberlines so can't say on those, the Grabbers get good reviews, but I tried for 2 months to get them in our area and could'nt. If you look at customers reviews on bridgestone tires the type I wanted got pretty bad reviews. Most said they would'nt buy them again.I have the ATRs on mine now and you can trust me they are a VERY good feeling tire and I could'nt really hear any noise at all from them. Look very aggresive, but ride very smooth. You can stop in for a quote or I can get one and PM you. When you say 125.00 per tire do you mean including mounting, balancing, desposal fees, and FREE rotation? How many 4 or 5?

Ron

Well, I had told him that my 235/85r16 Timberline MT's were 128+tax out the door. I don't know if I influenced the amount or not...

I need 5 tires out the door as close as possible to $125 each.

Timberline A/Ts run $90 or so. I'd give them a shot after running them on an Explorer before.

The Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revos get phenominal reviews on Tire Rack, as well as other Jeep sites. I'd give them a shot but the prices vary from $120 - 150 depending on the sidewall and speed rating.

If I end up spending $150+ per tire, I think I'd get the BFG T/A KO.

I run Timberlines. I'll be trying them out off road in livingston... they do well in snow and ice and the bit of dirt and mud in driveways and such. we'll see when we get off road. but they are cheap!!

Ok,heres what I'll do,I'll get you prices on first choice Timberline A/T's,second choice Dueler A/T revo's,and third choice BFG t/A ko's. These quotes will include dismount and mount, balance, new stems, taxes, disposal fees, and FREE ,yes I said FREE. lifetime rotation(every 9,000 miles)and balancing as needed. From my experiences,if you buy a tire elsewhere, and carry them into another shop for installation, they will show you no mercy, and since you did'nt buy their tire, will not give you FREE rotation and balancing as needed. Most shops as well as ours charge 20.00 and up just for rotation. With a 70,000 mile tire, that could be 160.00 just for lifetime rotations,@ 9,000 mile intervals.Thats hard to believe, but true. And if this sales pitch did'nt work, you can still get any tire, wherever you want to and we'll still install them for you. :)
