You just need to take it out. Mine was 100% stock (just skids) when I took it out. You will have so much fun.
It's getting over that first hump of taking it out

I would like to set up a L.O.S.T outing up at Silver Lake this spring or summer. Make it a weekend thing.

What do you think?

I didn't see this campground on the Camping reservation site. Is it first come first serve for a spot? Do they have electrical hook up? I have a pop-up camper.

EDIT:
I looked back at the campground again and noticed there is no reservations.

Sites available on a first-come, first-serve basis. No reservations. 25 sites for tent and small trailer use, 1 of which can accommodate 40-ft vehicle/trailer. Located along the Little Manistee River with good trout fishing, Off-Road Vehicle route accessible from campsite. Rustic campground includes vault toilets and potable water from well hand pump.

I'm in for drummond island.

I did silver lake sand dunes last year. I'm still trying to get the sand out of my rig. I got bored of the dunes after a few hours and there is nothing else to do around there.

I'm in depending on the date. It's a 10 hour drive from the IL/Wisconsin Border area.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&s ... island,+mi

It seems like as well as the public ORV areas, there is also a private park there called Turtle Ridge. Looks very cool.

Lets start looking at a date and then start a new thread. Renegade363 - you are in charge of coordinating this one because I have no cluse about that area or the best time to head up there.

Lets say in June sometime? Memorial Day weekend may be an option unless that is a really busy time for that area.

There are two ferry's we can take across lake michigan. One is out of milwaukee the other is farther north near Green bay. The ferry will cut out at least 3 hours of driving for the illinois and wisconsin folks.

I was trying to look into that and it seemed to not be any faster. Still would be 6 hours to Drummond Island from the Milwaukee one, not sure if thats any better, except that we would get to chill on the boat for a bit. Downside is we are on thier schedule then, not our own.

Depending on the date, I will be in as well. I will travel up with my pop up camper and make a 4-5 day trip out of it. Love being a teacher in the summer. :)

Why not the place that was mentioned previously (instead of Drummond)?

That is much closer for everyone involved. only 5 and a half hours from Chicago, and wayyyyy less driving if we use a ferry as paul suggested.

futher comments anyone?

7 hours for me but like I said, I will be making a trip out of it if I can make it.

Memorial Day weekend is booked for me with the Indy 500. The second and third weekends (10-11 June, 17-18 June) are both open for me.

Items to note:

Silver lake requires ORV and State Park Pass for entry
You must have a front mounted ORV flag.
Stock tires will manage most terrain.

The boredom limit all depends on who your up ther with.
I go when I can, it has always been great.
No worse then driving the highway now with sand and solt on the road.

Most State forest / public ORV grounds may require a State of Michigan ORV decal.
$16.25 and avaliable at most sled / bike shops and online:
http://www.mdnr-elicense.com/welcome.asp

I snowmobile the Luther area, I do not know the area in the summer.
The trails are pretty tight, and I am not sure if Jeeps are allowed?
I'll dig into this a bit more.

Lastly,
I am booked Memorial weekend as well.

That'd be quite awesome. Anyone like or dislike early July for this?
