It is very easy to bypass that obstacle. Instead doing the very first climb that goes slightly to the right you go slightly to the left.
As far as the obstacle between the trees- I only did it once with 4 or 5 other kjs. The tree on the left looks like rainbow frompaint from different vehicles.

Anyone going for Saturday and Sunday? I am thinking about going for two days, staying in Attica Inn.

I was gonna camp but the wife said she'd rather i was around saturday. I've been on second shift for a few weeks and we have only seen each other in passing when trading off the kids. Just Sunday for me, as much as I'd like to do both days.

P.S. - I think we're gonna end up doing our own thing rather than running with the Xterras. Our group is getting bigger than any run we've had by ourselves so far!

My first time out in the KJ. I'll be avoiding the jungles and rainbow painted trees until I get the hang of wheeling a full size SUV (at least, compared to the little CJs of old).

If everyone is going on the orange trail, I may just hang out with the X-Terra guys.

This sounds about where I am with my comfort level as well so I will stick with alljeep. I have the new tires which makes me feel better but I am alittle worried about hitting an oj trail without a lift and being only my second time out there. There were several spots on the green trail I know we bypassed last time with the stockers but I also understand your guys desire to do something more challenging now that you have your lifts and having done the green trail twice in two months.

For all the guys that are thinking about the orange trail....
Pixeldzn & myself did it the very first time with no problems at all - the very first drop in is a bit tough just because there is a big boulder on the right side and there were a couple other rocks - it made it for a nasty entrance - we actually had to move 2 big ones so we could get in. After that it is tight for a bit and a stocker with good tires should have no problem doing the first stretch - after that, we have no idea how it looks - we've never done past the first stretch. If weather did not cooperate and ground is wet, I would not even try it.
There is still plenty of places we have not hit yet more than once. Hopefully Boghar can come down with us - he knows the park a lot better than we do.
Same as it happened when Pixeldzn & I were newbies with stock KJs, our trail boss did not even attempt to lead us into dangerous spots. I'm totally content with white & Green - Still thinking about that place that ate Bakerkj's rig - should I?
Nah.... not until I have my titanium front diff. :) that'll be the day :)

This time I will need to surrender the KJ to my wife - she wants to play in the sand dunes for a bit

Someone posted some SWEET high resolution pictures from the New Years Day run to The Badlands on the midwest photo gallery!!! That should be motivation enough to bring people along!

I've been spinning my wheels for two weeks trying to get my custom flag antenna built. My 7' firestick will not arrive until Monday. My flags are lost in the mail somewhere. I've got a cheap little water-ski flag I'm going to try to mount on a roof rail for Sunday. What a piddly little project to be stuck on...

If anyone needs a rear tow hook for this run, let me know I have an extra I can lend you.

I'm still in as well. I have to take the Jeep to the dealer all day Monday for some transmission issues. I hope it's just a reflash or something or I might end up without my ride for a while. I've got irregular shifting going on - definitely not normal...

Shoot me a PM if you want to meet up at 70 and 465 for the trip over. I am coming from Beach Grove (Emerson exit on 465) if you would rather meet somewhere else. Hope your transmission feels better soon.

Do you mean I-74? Depends if I get diesel today, or wait until the morning. I'm nursing a twisted back today, but I'm coming tomorrow no matter what. It's supposed to be sunny and in the 40s - perfect.

I went to 4-wheel parts today to get one and they were sold out of the receiver clevis mounts. Please bring your extra one.

Yes, Alljeep, I did mean I-74. I will hit the road at about 7:45am and get gas at the Emerson exit on 465. I will keep radio scanning between channel 14 and 19 all the way over. Let me know if you would like to meet up for the trip over.

BakerKJ meant a tow hook, not a shackle reciever. He recently installed a hitch and so he has the extra tow hook now.

The tow hook won't fit if you have a hitch installed.

If you have a hitch you can push the tow strap into the reciever and use the pin to secure it.

I was planning on heading out at 7:00am only because yahoo.com mapping says it takes 2 hours to get there from the Mooresville area. Also, I only have a handheld CB so I probably won't even turn it on until I get to The Badlands.

I still have to run out to Meijer tonight and get some community drinks for the trip. Since so many people are coming, I figure it's ok to have two people bringing drinks.

As for shackle, or hook receivers... I was at Menards today and they are clearing out their 10,000lb rated drawbar/tow hook for only $10.99 so I picked up one for my front hitch.

All packed up and ready to go! Bringing a bunch of drinks (Gatorade, Lipton Iced Tea, Diet Dr. Pepper, Coke Zero) and some dessert for lunch. Some Girl Scout thin mints, and I believe someone requested cake? Well, I have something that may qualify as cake. See you all tomorrow, I'm hittin' the sack.
