I just posted a post down in the MA forum from (they had some club issue) where I was VP of before moving. In ending the post is where the point of this thread is going: The MEMBERS need to step up to the plate, not just the officers.

The MEMBERS need to step up to the plate, not just the officers.

The MEMBERS need to step up to the plate

Yes, we all need to be more active. I admit I have slacked due to various reasons and now it`s time for me to get off my collective stupid and do my part to help the club and quit making excuses. Yes, we all have money/time/family/job restraints, but if YOU want the club to be successful, then YOU need to get more involved in whatever way you can.

-Make a club meeting

-Show up to an event

-Post more input on the boards

-Etc.

You get the gist. Let`s stop coming up with excuses and make this club the best on L.O.S.T.! That was my turn at bat and I`m on base. Now it`s your turn at bat...

As a member of the midwest chapter, I feel that we are well organized and have not heard any complaints. We organize at least one trail run per month, as well as doing other events such as lift parties, meet and greets and other various club meetings. We also keep each other tuned in on information pertaining to our areas such as good trails, off road friendly dealerships, fabrication shops, automotive parts stores and more. I hope that I am not the only one who is more than satisfied with the chapter that we as a group have built.

Oh yeh, I also wanted to thank the officers for making the club what it is. If it wasn`t for your time and dedication, the club would not be here. It`s good to know that I moved into a chapter that has the people that can be trusted to run a great club and have alot of fun experiences with.

The gist of this thread was aimed at the members. The officers are fine and no complaints there. In my experiences since first coming to L.O.S.T. is that there are alot of members that do absolutely nothing. Some even gripe and complain but do nothing to actually help. Others, and I`m guilty of this recently, is not participating more in any way you can. If people want their club to be successful and enjoyable, they need to help out in any way they can, no matter how little they think they may contribute. It all adds up. :)

Mike,

Where did this come from? Maybe LOST-NE is messed up, but Mid-West is doing fine (I think). I just took your post wrong when I read it. I'm not an officer, but I did manage to drag my lazy butt up to Camp Jeep because LOST Mid-West did a request for trail guide volenteers. It was NOT convienent. In fact, lots of members went up to help guide trails. Have you been in Mid-West long?

Also, LOST is a online forum for a wide variety of folks. They don't have to, nor would I expect, everyone to be active in the group. Infact, the 15-20 very active folks in Mid-West is a high percentage of the 80 something Mid-West total membership.

This is what I feel......
little by little we are becoming a better club, getting more active - drawing more interest/members. We will probably get at least 5 more on the midwest due to Camp Jeep. How many of those are going to be active? - depends how much the Jeep bug has had an effect.
As a group we are trying to be more active, always trying to get the ball rolling on outings that can turn into a brief meeting also. It is very hard to make this type of commitments and count on everybody to be there but at least some are showing up and that is encouraging.
Out of 89 members on our roll call, about 26 are very active on the boards, out of those about 21 have gone offroading at one time or another. There are about 3 to 5 more that do not even post but do go out with us all the time.
When we see a big outing it feels so good - just 2-3 weeks ago we had the lift party - we were about 10 right there - that was good.... to say the least, the Chicago area group is very active - both on the boards and outings.
Kansas has 2-3 members that are very active - you know who you are.... :)
Michigan is growing a bit more as time goes by - we still have to plan a run up there this year - it will happen. Mr363 might be showing up the 26th and Talon1 is itching to go out again/
Indiana is kind of slow right now - I know somebody is reaaalllyy itching to go offroad - Mr CRD :) - Videoguy has made a trip up north - and Science guy might be done for the season - school is back...sorry Craig.
And there is the Ohio guys that are very active - eventually we will loose Eddo but meduncan & moose are still there together with jasonk

If I missed somebody, it is just because there are too many to name- sorry

I think it is on the hands of the more active members to get the ball rolling locally and then expand from there. Get some meet & greet organized and make the Jeep bug itch a lot more...
Like Mike said - members are what the club is.... so let's get going....

Don`t read too much into what I said Jason. It just stemmed from my post in the MA section. How can I post something there that says "get off your butt and get involved" when I am guilty of it lately too? So thus, this post. If i`m going to talk the talk, I better walk the walk.:P

But also I`ve noticed in the past how many people actually sign up for a club and then they do absolutely nothing. I remember seeing in various places on this board only 3 or 4 turn people out at an event when you have high double or even triple digit # of members. ???

So, in essence, my above post was to just urge people into getting more active. It wasn`t anything negative. Just hopefully getting people to make this club, and even L.O.S.T. as a whole, that much better! Let`s see the forums get more active. Let`s see the events have more members participating. In the end, you`ll have a better club because there will be so many people having great experiences and making new friends. I for one, cherish all the friends and great times and memories I`ve had so far in the MA club. What if I never got active...

Mike

Wow... things must've gotten pretty bad in the other group before you left....

As far as LOST Midwest I am actually quite proud of us... Freindships have been made.. and Jeeps have been lifted, altered, and improved...

There is always going to be people more active than others.. it may be just a matter of convenience of time, location, or any other reason that may come to mind... but in the end the club is growing and people are becoming more and more active....

I also wanted to mention that I was real "iffy" in the begining about how this might take time away from my "family-time". It has actually added to it.

For instance at Camp Jeep this week, I saw freinds, husbands, wifes, kids, brothers, sisters, in-laws and even a grandma... all coming together due to Lost Midwest...

So after reading your post a couple times I finanly get what you were trying to say..

Keep Posting.. Keep Getting Together... Keep Jeepin'.....

Yup! Or more aptly, Start Posting.. Start Getting Together... Start Jeepin`! (For those that aren`t active)

Because...

Is exactly what I`m talking about! The club gets bigger, you meet new friends, and you make memories you`ll cherish forever. All that would never have happened if you never did get involved. Wheel or not, you`ll have a great time by being a part of L.O.S.T.

OK, so I took it wrong. All we can do is what we can do. We show up; show folks how fun it is; evangalize a bit; try to add to the flock.

This is just me spitballing here but I would say we have more than 15-20 active members but there are others that aren't really close to the others.
I know it's hard to try and please everybody all the time but if there were a more centralized local for the wheeling events I think we would have more than 15-20 "active" members.

That is why I'm thinking we should plan for next year a National Midwest Run - pick a place big enuf to do wheelin for 2-3 days, give people chance to travel about 12 hrs to & from, make a 5 day event for everybody...
I still think there is a place somewhere in the lower midwest where there is more trails - one that comes to mind is coal Creek in TN

How 'bout Land Between the Lakes - just south of Illinois in Kentucky? Big area, lots of camping and hotels.

I think 10-12 August '07 would be good, so it will be far enough from Moab that folks can get some vacation back. Also shoot for a Fri-Sun to save more vacation time.

I know I sound like a broken record but Ks has a couple places and that is a very central location. If your interested KSRocks is a great place to go. They have primitave camping during the summer and they are great to work with planning events. I'm willing to travel for more than a few hours if it a large enough turnout and pending I have a couple months to plan and save since dino is worth more than my first born son.

I don't really care where it is. http://www.ksrockspark.com does look cool thought. I think we'll need to mix it up. One year in KY, one in KS, one in the upper midwest (WI? IA?), etc.

The biggest question is who wants to coordinate/host. Anyone willing to give the time it'll take to coordinate 20-40 KJs for the run?

In fact, this should be a new thread...

If we wanted to do the KsRocks thing next year I could help do some of the cordination. The Jeep club I joined has members on the board so I have some connections there. I just wouldn't be able to start anything like that untill middle or late Nov. I work for a haunted house and from aug to nov. I'm pulling sometimes 20 hour days. But I would help anyway I could.

I would go more for the Kentucky area (land Between the Lakes or somewhare more central area, yes I know Kentucky is not central but....Also August would be OK mid way through possibly. Hard to plan for these things as I tried to get some to go to the Jeep Show here in Toledo to represent L.O.S.T. No it wasnt a wheelin trip but lot of Jeep owners there and Jeep clubs . We did have 4 show up which was good . Lots promised but never came through do to other things happening. But if you start now maybe everyone would have enough time.
