OK, now that we're done hijacking Talon1's thread, lets talk about August 10-12 in someplace centralish. Although I'd love to run KSrocks, I agree that it's unlikely to happen this year as a mid-west run (it is central to the nation though)

I suggest folks post a link to a wheeling site (some have been mentioned in the previous thread) and then we'll run a poll.

I'm not sure I agree with August in the Midwest - possibly a little warm and sticky for camping.

I say the event should be late March or September...

OK, I put dates out as a strawman. My feelings were that March was too close to Moab and school starts for a lot of families in mid to late August. Columbus day is in early October. Kids might get a 3 day weekend then... Or there's Labor Day. We still want this as a family event, right? (I know my daughter has already asked when we're wheeling with FreeJeep & Pixeldzn again so she and the girls can hang out some more)

This would be too cool. My brother law lives in Cadiz and we were going next year and this would be perfect. I've got two girls 5 and 7 who would kill me if they didn't get to go. They love to get the KJ dirty!

Not sure when this will happen or if I'll still be around, but will chime in with my 2 cents. We might want to look for a venue that has more than a few hundred acres, especially for a multi-day national event. Driving around on the same square mile or so starts to get mundane after the first day, at least for me. It would also be great if the area was more than just 4-wheeling. Nice senery with camping, etc.

I'd look for a National Forest type area as oppose to an off-road park. Remeber, that we all drive street legal Jeeps so almost all the forest roads along with many other unmaintained roads are open for wheeling. These are all considered legal highways; therefore, they are not designated "offroad" driving by the Forest Service, eventhough they are unmaintained roads that require 4wd. We don't need to be stuck to an Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) area. OHVs are for just about anything, ATV's, unlicenced Jeeps/trucks, dirt bikes, etc.

The Land Between the Lakes has something like 100,000+ arces with lots of forest roads, primitive back country camping, boating, etc. Also, coal creek has aroun 75,000 arces. Those both look like nice areas to me.

Land between the Lakes looks like a great place to have a run and I'd vote for October as a good month. That should also break up the major runs pretty well as April, August, and October. Would be cool to have a run in January or February but the weather wouldn't be too nice around here for that.

October may be good as far as it being cooler, leaves are changing (maybe) sitting around a camp fire, etc. I agree with Eddo as far as bigger area, plus as much as I used to like hardcore wheelin, any more some of that with a good mix of just good back roads, not paved mind you but back roads with great views with some of the other mixed in there. That way anyone could come from ones with no lifts/no protection underneath to those of you who are maxed out. If it was done down in that area (KY/Tenn.) we could maybe find out dates of other L.O.S.T. chapters runs and have some of them meet also. I could see this forming into a "RIGHT SIDE L.O.S.T. Run" , yes dreaming I know!

When we nail down a date/location, we'll post this up in the national runs forum...

I am fine with early October - don't want to run into hunting season - cool weather makes for great camping...

A 3 day event (fri, Sat, Sun), such as Moose recommended, would be best.

I can live with early October, but I'd like to make it over Columbus day weekend so the kids can come. So that would make it October 6-8 (Saturday through Monday)

I'm only here for graduate school which I graduate this spring.
I honestly don't think that area of Slade will re-open anytime soon. However, there are lots of other trails in that area. But, the narrows was a really nice trail. It is ashamed they closed it.

Anyways, didn't mean to hijack the thread. Back to business on the LOST Midwest National Run.

BTW, are we planning this run for this October or October in 2007?

Yes... 2007
I know we are planning waaaay ahead but it is something that will help in developing a national run.
Land between thelakesans Coal Creek are the ones we probly will be focusing in.

Just came to mind.... in early october there is theJeep Jamboree in Frnch Lick IN. I doubt many people would go to that event being so pricey - about $250 per person??
so, Early Oct sounds ok to me.

I know you can't please everyone but if it is in October I'm going to be out on this one. I work for Full Moon Productions which ownes The Beast and The Edge of Hell. I just happen to manage The Beast. I would really love to go to a national event but the love of the job would prevent me from that. Keep me posted. FYI.... Early Aug. would be the best for me.

Eddo - doesn't mean we can't do a pre-run this year... Do you get a 3 day for Columbus?

Dang, you guys got busy while I was away. I like it. Definitely arree with a fall run, as the spring is already full with FITS and Moab. Also agree with it being at Land between the Lakes.

I'll chime in some more when I have more time.

I like the Pre Run idea also. Since my wife will be teaching in Boston for the next nine months need something to keep me out of trouble! :D Can we get a pre run going for this fall yet? Or has anyone been there to know enough about the trails etc. to go ahead with planning.

We can do a pre-run - I'll have to check schedules on my end - I'd love to do it right and a pre-run will make it perfect

Or even a few pre-runs... I can't get away until after little league football is done. So it's early November for me.
