| Post subject: | Land Between the Lakes, KY Prerun - Oct 7-9 2006 |
Time to organize the Land Between the Lakes Prerun (in anticipation of the national run for next year). We will be utilizing the upcoming Columbus Day holiday - Saturday, October 7th thru Monday, October 9th. There are numerous camping loactions and a variety of services offered, however the central camp sight for this run will be located at the Turkey Bay OHV area. http://lbl.org/Home.html A permit is required to enter and wheel the Turkey Bay OHV - $15 for a 3-day permit. The camping fee is $8/night in the Turkey Bay OHV - more at other sites within LBL. I will be camping within the Turkey Bay OHV area. I will also be headed down after work Friday night (the 6th) but will probably sleep on the way, so I'll be fresh in the morning. Please copy/paste the attendance list in your post and add your name: 1. SunDvl (in the TJ) |

Robert, most of us don't have Columbus Day off. Only Financial and Government. I burned up all my vacation going to Moab, Camp Jeep and the Rubicon. Might be able to work it out somehow though. |

I've worked in the financial industry and with banks for so long that I thought everyone gets Columbus Day off - sorry. Henry- I wasn't sure where I'd sleep for the night, to be honest, I thought I would just drive till midnight and sleep in the Jeep if I wasn't there yet. |

I'm interested for sure. I've been wanting to check out that area for sometime. You have any routes and roads planned out. I know you mentioned the OHV area, but what about the rest of the area? There has got to be tons of forest roads and back roads crossing the area. The good thing about owning a street legal Jeep is we are not just limited to OHV areas. If this looks like a go, then in the next I'll do some research and get some topo maps. Add me to the list. 1. SunDvl (in the TJ) 2. KJ-Bol 3. Eddo |

As long as I had 1 other person to wheel with, I was planning on going. It will be my first time to the area. I mentioned the OHV, becuase that is the designated offroad area. If you look at the maps provided on the LBL website, you will notice an abundance of trails but most appear to be hiking/biking trails. The best way to see what is available is to just to head down there. Supposedly, Turkey Bay has over 100 miles alone. I would love to bring my mtn. bike and do some riding as well. |

Ah what the heck. Can't pass up an opportunity to 'wheel, especially as it's needed for planning. 1. SunDvl (in the TJ) 2. KJ-Bol 3. Eddo 4. pixeldzn |

I attended the Jeep Jamboree at Turkey Bay this year. FreeJeep (Don) from the midwest went also. There are tons of forest roads outside the OHV area and supposedly an old rock quary. Turkey Bay itself has some easier stuff but I think most of the area would rate sliders. There are some great hill climbs and gulleys to stradle. Check out Itsajeep.org forums for some photos from trail rides at Turkey Bay. Some of those guys might also be willing to guide if needed. This is very close to some of us from Southern Lost. If it's alright, we might like to meet up with you folks. |

I've never seen the area, but I think you will be okay without sliders. You just have to go slower and watch your line better. We got you through slade without a problem, and I'm sure there will be plenty of stuff at the same level and below what was at Slade. According to Jeep Jamboree the trails rate from a 2-7. A 1-3 is pretty much suitable for any stock SUV with street tires. I'd rate most of the trail we did at Slade a 4-6. The really difficult section that I started at first was probably an 8. I'm sure you will be fine. Finally, If you don't to take your Jeep on some of the difficult stuff you are more than welcome to ride along in mine. We always need someone to take good pictures. |

Im a picture taking mad man!! I was talking to some guys today about the nature trail eddo. They said after that turn it only gets worse. I thought there was a way around it but he said there wasn't. Id say its a good thing that we didnt go that time Moose was planning to. I have a feeling we would of gotten a bit of trail damage. |

IT'S A JEEP! As for LBL, I'm working on my wife. My daughter is for it, as long as Pixeldzn or FreeJeep is going with their kids... If we do go, it's only a 2 day weekend |

Check out this place. It's just west (across the bridge) from the ORV area and you can rent cottages or stay in a room for not too much money. But, you would miss out on the group factor/camping/fun stuff - so probably not worth it ... http://parks.ky.gov/resortparks/kl/details.htm This Land Between the Lakes looks like an exploration wonderland! The place is huge![/b] |

Take a look at this map http://www.lbl.org/LBLPublicAccessRoadsMap.pdf Tons of secondary and tertiary roads that lead all over the area to some nice enclaves and bays. Also here is a nice map of the OHV area http://www.davidwtaylor.org/jeeps/maps/ ... PS_Map.htm |
