Redbird State Riding Area over 600 acres and growing The park is located on the county line between Greene and Sullivan counties. Directions 317-232-4070 Admission is $10 per day per vehicle Open on Saturday and Sundays only, April through November from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. This place is about 2 hours drive SW from Indy (South of Terre Haute). I would like to take a look at the place to see what it offers. I would like at least one other person to go with me. If you are interested, please just let me know and we can try to work out a weekend that would work for all of us. Edit: Also wanted to say if anyone (i.e. Chicago, OH or MI ppl) want to use the extra bedroom in my house you are welcome. I just hope you like dogs. You could drive down on Friday to get a jump on the day. We could wheel on Sat and that would give you Sun to drive back. I know this place is a haul for many of you. |

I think I could do a run w/ you at redbird. I don't think it's too much further for me...I made it to the badlands in an hour and 45 mins. I'll check back w/ this thread and see who else is interested...maybe we can get a nice group together and get a weekend planned out. Another place to check is Haspin Acres in Laural (think thats spelled right) Indiana. I believe they are open to Jeeps but are a bit smaller....not sure though. |

I looked at their web site but wanted to try Redbird first. I basically looked over the list of sites on the Indiana DNR web page that lists the Off Roading in Indiana. I was attracted to Redbird because of its size (although smaller then Badlands) and I just wanted to try something different. |

Definitly a great idea. I remember hearing about it opening about a year or 2 years ago...can't quite remember. I believe it's pretty rocky in that area. |

Tony Lance (Redbird Management) had this to say about how Redbird compares to Badlands... Quote: Both parks are nice, they are two very different places. Badlands is a lot of pea gravel and sand with a rock quarry too. Redbird is old strip mining ground with a lot of woods and a few mud holes. I go to both places and like them both. I like Redbird more myself, all of its trails are mostly in the woods, were Badlands has a lot of open ground. Redbird has over 650 acres where the Badlands is about the same size but with only around 200 acres of true woods trails. Try them both out and see what you think. one other note is the fees. Redbird 10.00 per vehicle, Badlands 15.00 per vehicle and 5.00 per passenger. Thanks for asking and hope to see you there
As you know, Badlands is up to 20$ now. From what I have read, Redbird = woods and dirt/mud while Badlands = sand and rocks. |

Ditto. I want to explore the large power easement area with lots of hills and valleys. I'm homebound for another 3-4 weeks but have been pulling up satellite photos of the area for investigation - it looks real good. |
