Post subject:  D. Boone / Red River Gorge (4/14)

I have Spring Break coming up (april 6 - 16) and was thinking of going down to Kentucky again for a little more wheeling as well as sight seeing. I really liked the terrain in Livingston, and would like to spend some time at the Gorge. Is it true that the trails in Slade (http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=9616) are closed?

Where else are some other good trails in the area?

(PS I'm getting new tires today and probably rockers in the next couple weeks and I need to break them in)

(PPS Of course if anyone is interested in going, we could make a group run too, a little pre-Moab for those that aren't heading out west)

Not all the trails are closed in Red River Gorge. The problem is being able to find them and not getting lost while your out on the trail. :?

There are many more side trails that we didnt take at Livingston.. But many of those side trails are a bit much for a libby.. More so if you go by yourself.

I would be up for going to livingston if you came down, but I just put my stock tires back on.

Cool, Moose. It looks like we'll be in the area toward the end of that week.

Jeepster, do you have classes during that week?

Anyone up for a Friday or Saturday run? (4/13 or 4/14)

Depending how how classes are going, I wouldnt care to come down and ride around some. I wouldnt be looking for offroading much though since I have the chrome rims on, but I wouldnt care to ride around looking for some back roads and such. :)

Well, what ever day I drive down for, I want to take some 3+ and 4's if we can find them. Either over in Slade or down in Livingston.

I'm game for either. I hope to have my sliders from CRS. I'll be up for 3's again. I wouldn't mind seeing some of Slade, KY.

Any preference for Friday or Saturday?

My girlfriend and I will for sure be driving to Livingston (Exit 49 in KY on I75) on Friday the 13th (insert scary horror film soundtrack here). We'll ride Friday and stay the night and head toward Slade to wheel again on Saturday (will need some input on trails though).

The difficulty of trails will depend on the amount of participation, the more the merrier.

Hopefully I'll see some of you out there!

I may go to livingston with ya. :)

I may be running stock tires without rock rails, but that shouldnt be a problem. Ive ran livingston before with-out rocker rails and you ran stock tires last time. 8)

Edit: What time will you all be getting down here on Friday? I get out of class around 1:20 usually and it takes me around 30min to get down there. I could probably get there around 2:10 or so if not sooner.

Ill be going home next weekend and on easter so I may put the rocker rails and cragars back on.. It doesnt take 20min to get them on and off now that the holes are there for the rocker rails. :)

So my softball season starts next Friday (a month early this year). I think we'll just drive down for Saturday only. I'll try to explore some new trails in case the group heads there in May.

You still in Jeepster?

Should be able to make it down since you are going on Saturday. Ill throw the rocker rails back on this weekend, but Ill be on stock tires which shouldnt be a problem since there really isnt any mud at Livingston. :)

Anyone else plan on coming down?

Ill try to bring a small come-a-long incase we need it..

Yep. I need to try out the new ATs, Skid Row trans skid and front hitch (probably bend the Mopar rails a bit more too)... Nothing better than some slippery rocks in the woods, eh?

Was a fun run.. Went alot quicker with just two libertys though.

We had to use a coma-long to pull my jeep sideways when the back end slide around and touched a hill.. Didnt scratch it any though.

The only damage was from a tree that didnt like my ball joint boot... Gotta get that fixed..

Back left tire was in this hole:

burnt some rubber off those crappy HP's trying to get out:

Didnt get any pics of Meh-kick pulling the jeep with the come-a-long.. Just wanted to get it out of the situation I was in.. If I would of put the A/T tires on and took a better line, it would of never happened. I believe thats the same spot that Science_Guy got some damage last time. :?

We started around 11 and left around 3 or so.. We usually start around 9:30 and dont get out of there till 5 or so. We didnt stop for lunch so that saved alot of time.

I think we got on the trail right after 11 and were off by 2:30. We ran the trail and also explored an off-chute.

The run was pretty fun today, I had my doubts with all the rain, but it didn't cause too many problems.

Thanks Jeepster for posting your pics. I'll put mine up Monday.
