Date:
Sat, Nov. 19, 2005

Location:
Badlands Offroad Park
Attica, IN

Cost:
$8 for special edition badlands thanksgiving run tshirt
(everyone needs to pony up for this at the meet or KJ-BOL can't make them for anyone.)
$15 badlands daily pass

Tentative Attendees:
pixeldzn
SunDvl
FreeJeep
mattnmette
Bakerkj
KJ-BOL
BlackOps
Boghar
Renegade363

Maybe:
alljeep

Suggested Equipment:
Front Tow Hooks (If you plan on doing anything that could get you stuck)
Rear Tow Hook or Hitch
20,000 Pound Tow Strap
FRS Radio or CB Radio (Preferred)
Flag that extends 2 ft above vehicle

(the flag is available at the park - although you risk having trouble installing it)

Park opens at 9am and closes at dark, so we need to get an early start heading down there - travel time seems to be about 3 hrs from Chicago.

Those of us staying overnight will be doing so in Lafayette, IN off of I-65 and SR-26, where there are quite a few motel choices.

My vote is for the http://www.badlandsoffroad.com/. I was going to try and get this trip rolling but was waiting for whatever reason. A FLAG is MANDATORY! You can buy one onsite but you would have to figure out how to mount it. This should be a great spot and intice people to come from all sides of the Midwest and we cold do more than just meet. How about Saturday, November 12th?

I think Badlands would almost warrant an overnight stay. Thats kind of short notice for motel accomodations.

How about we push it one week further to November 19, whether oor not Badlands is the location.

We have done the Badlands as a one day trip. Make for a lot of driving. but worth it. Works for me if our housing situation warrents.

Badlands is listed as 2 hrs 55 mins on Rand Mcnally from Wrigley. I am not detered... It would make it a one day adventure.

Well if thats the case, it only makes it 3-3.5 hours for me. As long as we stop for dinner and to stretch our legs, I'm cool with makin a one day round trip caravan.

I'm up for it - NOV 19th
Suggestions on travel? I've been going to Terre Haute, IN for the past 3 years at least 6 times a year and the fastest way to Attica is 65 south to 114 Rensselaer-Morocco East then take 41 south to Attica. On the way back, Avoid hitting northwest Indiana after 3pm
It is good for a Day's trip - Speeds on interstate 65 have been incheased to 70mph and on hwy 41 from 55mph to 65mph I think. The times on travel sites are a bit off - at least 45 min.

It's definitely close enough for me but whether or not I get my skid plates installed in time is another question. I ordered and received three skid plates, but one of them is wrong and arrived as the front skid and not the transmission skid so I'm in a dispute with the supplier right now - which of course fixed their website description now but still will not admit blame.

See this thread for details if your interested:

I just ordered a full set of skids from them although I ordered the 8002 retail packaged parts so I wouldn't have to mess around with aquiring the right bolts. They'll be here tomorrow, hopefully the order is correct

Do you have to have anything special done to your Jeep to go the BADLANDS?
Mine is only 2 weeks old and this sounds like an interesting event

I've been told that with skid plates, there are trails for us close to stock KJs. There will definitely be some stuff we can't do, but then we can just hop in with the lifted KJs and ride along.

You'll have a good time either way.

You are required to have a flag that extends above the roof at least 2 feet. My Liberty is only 3 weeks old!

The flags are available cheap at the Badlands' shop and should be easy enough to mount on-site. Just have some basic tools with you - And I'm sure others will have tools with as well.

I think tow hooks(or some kind of tow points) might are also be required. Even if they are not, I would highly suggest them.

You stock guys should be able to have some fun wandering around on some of the more open areas including a couple of sandy spots and the quary. There are also some VERY unimproved roads that wind around the park that should be doable.

And I will have a couple open seats if we decide to go a little deeper :D
